Ludwig Mödl
Prelate Ludwig Mödl (born March 20, 1938 in Ingolstadt ) is a Roman Catholic German theologian .
Life
Ludwig Mödl studied and obtained his doctorate in theology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . There he became a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Aenania Munich in the CV . On 29 June 1966 he received in Eichstaett the priesthood . He was initially a cooperator in Kipfenberg and in the parish of St. Johannes in Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate . He took part in a two-year postgraduate course at what was then the Institute for Catechetics and Homiletics in Munich. Mödl received his doctorate in 1984 with the dissertation of continuing education for priests around the middle of the 19th century .
From October 1st, 1971 to September 30th, 1987 he was responsible for the training of future priests of the diocese of Eichstätt as rain of the Eichstätt seminary . From October 1, 1987 to September 30, 1988, he was director of Hirschberg Castle , the retreat and education center of the Eichstätt diocese.
He then embarked on an academic career. From October 1, 1988 to September 30, 1992 he held the chair for pastoral theology at the Lucerne Faculty of Theology , from October 1, 1992 to March 31, 1996 professor for spirituality and homiletics at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and from April 1 1996 until his retirement in 2003 professor for pastoral theology at the LMU Munich.
From 2003 until the end of the summer semester 2013 he was spiritual at the Herzogliches Georgianum Munich . In parallel to his work as a spiritual director, he was a university preacher at the Ludwigskirche in Munich from July 2007 to 2013 (as the successor to the religious philosopher Eugen Biser ) . Mödl's successor as university preacher was Marc-Aeilko Aris . Mödl has been a senior chaplain in the Heilig Geist parish in Munich since 2013 and supports the pastor there. In the 2015 summer semester, he replaced his successor at the chair for pastoral theology at LMU Munich, Andreas Wollbold .
Participation in committees, clubs and professional associations
- Long-standing spokesman for the working groups of theological disciplines at the German Bishops' Conference .
- Member of the “Akademia Scientiarum et Artium Europaea”.
- Theological advisor to the Oberammergau Passion Play .
- Mödl is chairman of the board of trustees of the Institute for Theological and Pastoral Training in Freising , a training facility of the Freising Bishops' Conference for the pastors of the Bavarian dioceses (including the Diocese of Speyer).
- For many years he worked on the editorial team of the homiletic magazine Der Prediger und Katechet .
- Rotary Club Dachau
- Chairman of the Munich Association for Christian Art called January 18, 2017
In his scientific and theological work he has repeatedly shown a special interest in topics of Christian art and popular piety.
