Ludwig von Kalckreuth

Ludwig Ernst Heinrich Konstantin Graf von Kalckreuth (born November 7, 1771 in Nieder-Siegersdorf, Freystadt district in Silesia , † September 22, 1847 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 16th Cavalry Brigade .

Life

origin

He was the son of Hans Ernst Emil von Kalckreuth (* November 14, 1728 - March 31, 1792) and his wife Konstantina Auguste Sophie, born von Schlabrendorff (* December 14, 1742 - November 19, 1813). His father was a Prussian Rittmeister a. D. , most recently in the regiment of the Gardes du Corps and Herr auf Siegersdorf.

Military career

Kalckreuth came on August 1, 1785 as a standard squire in the regiment of the Gardes du Corps of the Prussian Army . On February 22, 1788 he became a cornet , and on February 2, 1791 he was eligible for membership in the Knights of St. John , and on May 10, 1791, he was second lieutenant . On June 1, 1793, Colonel von Schmettau transferred his prebend to the Havelberg monastery. In 1794 Kalckreuth took part in the campaign in Poland . On May 14, 1795 he was transferred to the "von Württemberg" cuirassier regiment and made a Knight of St. John. On September 26, 1798, he was aggregated with a patent from July 1, 1795 as a prime lieutenant in the "von Brüsewitz" dragoon regiment . On February 11, 1800 he was assigned to the regiment as a staff captain , and on April 30, 1803, he was also a captain. On September 21, 1805 he was transferred to his uncle, General von Kalckreuth , as an adjutant . In the following Fourth Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Auerstedt .

After the Peace of Tilsit , Kalckreuth was promoted to major on June 29, 1807 and aggregated to the Brandenburg Hussar Regiment on May 9, 1811 with the salary of a staff officer . In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation , he was transferred to General Yorck's corps on April 17, 1813 . On July 6, 1813, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on July 20 , 1813, he was transferred to the headquarters of the Prince of Sweden as a liaison officer. During the war Kalckreuth fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Dennewitz and Leipzig . In Leipzig he acquired the Russian Order of St. Stanislaus II. Class and the Order of St. Vladimir III. Class, the Sword Order III. Class and on October 21, 1813 the Iron Cross 2nd class. On March 1, 1814, he was promoted to colonel and on August 17, 1814, he was given four months' leave to return to his Silesian estates. Napoleon returned from Elba and Kalckreuth was transferred to General Kleist von Nollendorf on May 24, 1815 . From there, after the war, he was transferred to General Gneisenau on October 6, 1815, and on January 1, 1816, he was classified as an army officer. On November 23, 1816, Kalckreuth received the Order of the Red Eagle III from the king "as evidence of his satisfaction in the campaign of 1815" . Class. On September 25, 1817, he was given another leave of absence - this time for an indefinite period to settle his estate affairs. On March 30, 1818, he was promoted to major general with a patent from April 1, 1818. On February 22nd, 1820, he joined the 16th Cavalry Brigade as a commander, but on February 27th, 1820, he resigned from the service with a disability salary of 1200 thalers. On August 5, 1826, he received the service cross and on May 27, 1829 a gift of 300 thalers. He died in Berlin on September 22, 1847 and was buried in the garrison cemetery on September 26, 1847 .

Kalckreuth married Johanna Charlotte Hedwig von Unruh (1772–1855), divorced Buchholz , on March 7, 1800 in Berlin . The couple had several children:
