Karl Friedrich August von Freysleben (born October 21, 1785 in Fort Friedrichsburg , † January 20, 1847 in Tüppelgrün near Neudeck ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

His parents were August Joseph von Freysleben (1732–1807) and Katharina Elisabeth Gehricke (* 1750). The father was a Prussian lieutenant colonel and commander of the III. (Musketeer) battalions in the “von Schöning” infantry regiment . The couple had two children, both of whom were legitimized by King Friedrich Wilhelm II on June 7, 1787 . His brother Wilhelm took his leave as an ensign in the depot battalion of the "von Lichnowski" infantry regiment .

Military career

Freysleben visited the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin . Subsequently, on June 19, 1800, he was employed as a non-commissioned officer in the "von Schöning" infantry regiment of the Prussian Army and was promoted to secondary lieutenant until October 1806 . In the Fourth Coalition War he fought at Prussian Eylau , Soldau and Königsberg .

After the Peace of Tilsit , Freysleben was transferred to the 2nd East Prussian Infantry Regiment as adjutant on January 1, 1808 , and his patent as secondary lieutenant was backdated to September 10, 1800. On June 8, 1810, he came to Colonel von Zieten as adjutant . In the run-up to the campaign , he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on April 1, 1812 and took part as adjutant to Colonel von Below in the battles at Eckau , Mesothen , Friedrichstadt and the Daugava . Towards the end of the campaign, Freysleben fell ill and was therefore unable to continue his service.

After his recovery, Freysleben was transferred to the Adjutantur as captain on November 2, 1813 during the Wars of Liberation and was appointed adjutant to Lieutenant General von Zastrow , who headed the General Command in Prussia. After the war, on January 24, 1817, he received the Iron Cross on a white ribbon, 2nd class, for his achievements . On March 5, 1817 he became adjutant of the troop brigade in Poznan and in this position was promoted to major on March 30, 1817 with a patent from April 1, 1817 . This was followed from April 3, 1820 to June 17, 1825 as an adjutant at the General Command of the V Army Corps . Awarded the service cross , he was then commander of the III. Battalions in the 4th Landwehr Regiment. There he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1834 with a patent from March 31, 1834. As commander of the 2nd Battalion, he came to Danzig on March 30, 1835 in the 4th Infantry Regiment and on March 30, 1836, with a patent from April 2, 1836, became a colonel. On March 30, 1837 Freysleben was entrusted with the management of the unit and on January 14, 1838 he was appointed regimental commander. On January 18, 1839, on the occasion of the festival of the Order, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III class with ribbon. Since his commanding General Wrangel denied his suitability for a higher position, Freysleben was put up for disposal on March 24, 1831 with the character of major general and the statutory pension . He died on January 20, 1847 in Tüppelgrün near Neudeck.

The Commanding General von Wrangel wrote in his assessment in 1840: “A scientifically educated, very reliable and very serviceable staff officer, of benevolent and respectable disposition. He is thoroughly familiar with the bureau business, but only little familiar with the practical service, he leads the regiment fairly well in line, but he lacks the agility and energy to hold higher positions. "

Freysleben married Friederike Charlotte Maximiliane Henriette Alwine von Kleist (* July 7, 1802, † November 14, 1874) from the Dubrau family on January 19, 1820 in Posen . She was the daughter of Rittmeister Ernst Wilhelm Sigenfried von Kleist (1778–1836) and his wife Ferdinande, née von der Asseburg . Several children emerged from the marriage:
