Lyndon is a town in Caledonia County of the state of Vermont in the United States with 5981 inhabitants (according to the 2010 census).
geography
Geographical location
Lyndon is in the north of Caledonia County, in the Green Mountains . The Passumpsic River flows through the town in a southerly direction. Two main streams of the river join a little north of the villages. Other smaller streams and rivers flow into it. There are several small lakes in the town area, the largest being Bean Pond to the west. The surface of the town is hilly, the highest point is the 464 m high Shonya Hill .

history
The Grant for Lyndon was proclaimed on November 2, 1780 by the Vermont Republic . It was given to Jonathan Arnold and 53 other settler families on November 20, 1780. Many of these settlers came from a regiment stationed in Rhode Island during the American Revolutionary War . Settlement began in 1788 and Lyndon's first settler was Daniel Cahoon. On July 4, 1791, the town's constituent assembly took place.
Lyndon was named after Jonathan Arnold's eldest son: Josiah Lyndon Arnold , who was best known for publishing poetry for the first time on Vermont soil after his death.
In the first few years Lyndon could be reached at the postal address Lindon : a mistake in the spelling of the post office was not corrected for a long time.

There are five parishes in the Lyndons area: two of the United Church of Christ and one each of the Assemblies of God , the Episcopal and the Roman Catholic Church.

Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
In a north-south direction from the Canadian border in the north to New York City in the south, Interstate 91 runs through the west of the town. US Highway 5 also runs in a north-south direction . It connects Lyndon with Burke in the north and St. Johnsbury in the south. Vermont State Route 114 branches off from it in a northeastern direction .

There is no hospital in Lyndon. The closest is Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury.
education
Lyndon is part of the Caledonia North Supervisory Union with Burke, Newark, Sutton and Sheffield . In Lyndon, Lyndon Town School offers school classes from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
The private high school, the Lyndon Institute, is located in Lyndonville, as is Lyndon State College .
