The Mörlenbach is a 9.4 km long left tributary of the Weschnitz in the Hessian Odenwald .

course

The Mörlenbach rises in the middle of the Odenwald between Ober-Abtsteinach and Siedelsbrunn on the northern slope of the 593 meter high Hardberg , a little below the former specialist clinic on Hardberg in the southern tip of the Kreidach district , which belongs to the municipality of Wald-Michelbach .

The Mörlenbach initially flows north to the village of Kreidach and then turns permanently to the northwest. It crosses a pond that has developed on both sides of the brook and flows into this river from the left just south of the center of Mörlenbach at the bridge of the state road L 3120 over the Weschnitz .

Above Kreidach and between Kreidach and Weiher the steep valley slopes are forested.

Tributaries

The more important are:

  • Mackenheimer Bach , from the left and south below Kreidach at the confluence of the road from Mackenheim into the valley road L 3120, approx. 2.9 km. Arises next to the road from Ober-Abtsteinach to Mackenheim.
  • Brook from the Stallenkandel, from the right and east about 400 meters further down the valley, about 1.6 km. Created near the L 3409 at Stallenkandel .

traffic

The lower and middle parts of the Mörlenbach valley running northeast are of some importance for traffic in the central Odenwald. From Mörlenbach to Wald-Michelbach, both the L 3120, which takes the 423 meter high Kreidacher Höhe as a transition into the Ulfenbach valley system , and the Überwaldbahn , which leaves the valley under this small pass through the 679 meter long Waldmichelbach tunnel , run through it. The watershed between the Upper Rhine on this side and the Neckar on the other side runs over the Kreidacher Höhe and the north-south ridge east of the upper Mörlenbachtal, which at the same time limits the Überwald to the west.
