The High Trestle Trail Bridge over the Des Moines River

The High Trestle Trail, a rail trail for hikers, cyclists and riders, runs through Madrid in a west-east direction on the route of a former railway line of the Union Pacific Railroad . About 3 km west of Madrid, the High Trestle Trail crosses the Des Moines River over a bridge built in 1973.

The Iowa Arboretum has been a botanical garden in Madrid since 1966.
