Mahendragarh (or Mohindergarh ; Hindi : महेन्द्रगढ जिला) is a district in the northwest Indian state of Haryana .
The district was founded in 1948. It originated from parts of the PEPSU - princely states Patiala (Mahendragarh), Jind (Dadri) and Nabha (Bawal). Parts were later given to the neighboring districts of Gurgaon , Rewari and Bhiwani .
The district is now in the Gurgaon Division - about 120 km west-southwest of Delhi . It extends over an area of 1899 km².

In the 2011 census, the population was 922,088. 10 years earlier it was 812,521. This corresponds to a growth of almost 13.5%. The gender ratio was 895 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 77.72% (89.72% for men, 64.57% for women). Over 99% of the population are Hindu . The seat of the district administration is the city of Narnaul .
