Maik Keller

Maik Franz Josef Keller (born March 15, 1972 ) is a Colonel in the Army of the German Armed Forces and has been the Brigade Commander of the 23rd Mountain Infantry Brigade since April 23, 2020 .

Military career

Training and first uses

In 1992, Keller joined the German Armed Forces as a basic military service member of the Airborne Pioneer Company 260 in Koblenz . After completing basic military service, he became an officer candidate in the 4th  Company / Mountain Spy Battalion 8 (GebPiBtl 8) in Brannenburg in 1994 . Until 1997, Keller was trained as a pioneer officer at the Army Pioneer School and Technical College for Structural Engineering in Munich and at the Army Officers School in Hanover . After being employed as a platoon leader in 3./GebPiBtl 8 in Brannenburg, Keller studied political and social sciences from 1997 to 2000 at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich . After obtaining his diploma , Keller was again platoon leader in 2000, this time in the 2nd company of the Brannenburg GebPiBtl 8. From 2002 to 2006 he was employed as a company commander of the 3rd company of the 4th Panzer Engineer Battalion in Bogen .

Service as a staff officer

From 2006 to 2008, Keller was trained as an officer in the General Staff Service at the 3rd General Staff Course in the Armed Forces at the Command Academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg . Then until 2009 he was employed as a G3 staff officer (training and exercise) at the Army Command in Koblenz . From 2009 to 2010, Keller attended British General Staff Training at Shrivenham, United Kingdom , where he obtained a Masters in Defense Studies from King's College London .

Until 2012, Keller was a consultant for military policy principles and bilateral relations with Africa and Europe in the planning staff of the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in Berlin . During this time, the BMVg was reclassified so that he became a policy officer in the Politics department with the same assignment. From 2012 to 2015, as the successor to Oliver Kobza and the predecessor of Kersten Kleinhans, Keller led the 8th Mountain Pioneer Battalion, which he was familiar with and which had meanwhile been relocated to Ingolstadt , as battalion commander . This was followed by another ministerial assignment, this time as a consultant for planning and land projects for State Secretary Katrin Suder in Berlin. From 2017 to 2020, Keller was the office manager and personal advisor to Suder, then to her successor Benedikt Zimmer in the BMVg.

On April 23, 2020, Keller took over the leadership of Mountain Infantry Brigade 23 from his predecessor, Brigadier General Jared Sembritzki .
