Jared Stefan Sembritzki (born April 5, 1969 in West Berlin ) is a Brigadier General of the Army of the Bundeswehr and since May 8, 2020 Chief of Staff of the US Army Europe . Sembritzki is the first officer who was awarded the Cross of Honor of the German Armed Forces for bravery in his service as battalion commander of the Mountain Infantry Battalion 231 , and the 22nd holder of this award.

Training and first uses

Promotions

Sembritzki joined the German Armed Forces as an officer candidate in 1990 and completed regular training to become an officer in the hunter troop . After his first assignment as a platoon leader in the 572 Hunter Battalion , he was promoted to lieutenant in 1993 and transferred to the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich to study sports science , from which he graduated in 1997 as a sports scientist. After two more years as a platoon leader, Sembritzki took over a post as a lecture hall director at the Army NCO School II in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate . From 2000 he was employed as a company commander in the Mountain Infantry Battalion 571 , during which he took part in the KFOR mission from 2001 to 2002 as the company commander of 3rd Company, Einsatzverband 2 .

Service as a staff officer

From 2003 Sembritzki took part in the 46th general staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg . There he was promoted to major and then in 2005 he was transferred to the staff of the Special Forces Command as a G3 staff officer. In 2006 Sembritzki was promoted to lieutenant colonel and went as a consultant to the staff department Fü S III 1 (area of ​​responsibility: military-political foundations and bilateral relations) of the BMVg . From October 2009 to October 2011, Sembritzki was the commander of the Mountain Infantry Battalion 231.

From November 2011 to June 2014 he was adjutant to the General Inspector of the Bundeswehr, General Volker Wieker . From June 2014 to June 2015 he was at the National War College in Washington DC (USA). There he obtained an MA ( Magister Artium ) in National Security Strategy. From June 2015 to April 2017, he was the successor to Colonel Robert Sieger , Chief of Staff at the 10th Armored Division . This was followed by a brief assignment as Head of Division SE II 1 Military Policy and Asia / Oceania Region in the Federal Ministry of Defense .

Service in the rank of general

On June 1, 2017, Jared Sembritzki took over command of the Mountain Infantry Brigade 23 from Brigadier General Alexander Sollfrank . On June 29, 2018, the Federal Minister of Defense was promoted to Brigadier General. During his time as brigade commander, Sembritzki attached great importance to increasing the operational capability of his brigade with regard to national and alliance defense. On his initiative, a free-range brigade exercise was therefore carried out in 2018 for the first time in decades. In this series of exercises "Mountain Lion", which has taken place once a year since then, two reinforced combat groups headed by the brigade compete against each other. The aim of the exercise is to practice high-intensity combat against an equal opponent under the challenging conditions of the mountains. After almost three years in office, Sembritzki handed over command of the Mountain Infantry Brigade 23 to Colonel Maik Keller on April 23, 2020 and succeeded Brigadier General Hartmut Renk as Chief of Staff US Army Europe.

Orders and decorations

On September 6, 2011, Sembritzki was awarded the Bundeswehr Cross of Honor for Bravery , the highest military honor in the Federal Republic of Germany, by the Federal Defense Minister Thomas de Maizière as the first staff officer . He was honored for courage, leadership, determination, and selfless commitment shown during a heavy battle over an advanced security outpost near Shahabuddin, Afghanistan . Sembritzki was deployed there as part of the ISAF mission as commander of QRF  5 and, through his behavior, made a significant contribution to defending the contested outpost.

Sembritzki is divorced and has one child.
