Alexander Sollfrank (* 7. December 1966 in Fürth ) is a Major General of the Army of the Armed Forces and since May 18, 2018 Chief of Staff in command army .

Training and first uses

Promotions

Alexander Sollfrank joined the Bundeswehr in 1986 with Panzergrenadier Battalion 112 in Regen . From 1988 to 1989 he was platoon leader in Panzergrenadierbataillon 242 in Feldkirchen , from 1989 to 1993 he studied political science at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich and took part in a course at the University of Texas in Austin . From 1993 to 1994 he was again platoon leader, this time in the mountain infantry battalion 232 in Bischofswiesen , it joined use as a company commander in the hunter educational battalion 353 in Hammelburg on. After a brief assignment as a lecture hall director at the infantry school , Sollfrank was transferred to Heidelberg in 1998 as an adjutant to the Allied Land Forces Central Europe , before he went to Hamburg in 1999 and took part in the 42nd Army General Staff Course at the Bundeswehr Command Academy in Hamburg .

Service as a staff officer

After completing his general staff training, Sollfrank became head of the operational management department in the Army Office in Cologne . He held this position until 2003, after which he was deployed as a planning staff officer for the foreign missions in the Balkans ( SFOR , EUFOR and KFOR ) in the Bundeswehr operations command in Potsdam .

From 2004 to 2006 he was employed as a consultant in the command staff of the army in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in Bonn , from 2006 to 2009 he then took over as commander of the 232 mountain hunter battalion in Bischofswiesen. After he had supported the leadership academy for a year as a tutor and lecturer in the field of troop leadership, he was transferred to the planning staff of the BMVg in Berlin . From 2011 to 2013 he was department head of General Staff Department 3 (responsible for training and further education) of the 10th Panzer Division in Sigmaringen , and until his assignment as brigade commander, he was chief of staff in the Special Operations Division and Rapid Forces Division.

Service as a general

On January 29, 2015, he took command of Brigadier Brigade 23 in Bad Reichenhall from Brigadier General Michael Matz and was promoted to Brigadier General in June 2015.In June 2017, he handed the brigade over to Colonel Jared Sembritzki . On June 23, 2017, he succeeded Brigadier General Dag Baehr as commander of the Special Forces Command . On May 18, 2018, Sollfrank, succeeding Major General Alfons Mais , became Chief of Staff in the Army Command. He handed over his previous command as commander of the special forces command to Colonel Markus Kreitmayr on June 26, 2018 . In September 2018, Sollfrank was promoted to major general.
