offer

Visualization of the mall from a bird's eye view

The concept of the mall combines shops and restaurants with leisure and sports offers, a children's area , the first standing indoor wave in Switzerland and the largest IMAX cinema screen in the country in the Pathé multiplex cinema with 12 halls and a total of 1962 seats. There is also a training center, fitness & wellness club with over 2,000 square meters. The largest shopping center children's area in Switzerland has an area of 1,500 square meters.

The "La Strada" promenade offers branded stores from the areas of fashion, beauty, shoes, jewelry and accessories. So-called pop-up stores offer changing offers with niche products , for example from up-and-coming designers from home and abroad.

Comprehensive Wi-Fi , information points, lounge areas with living room character and cloakrooms are available to customers. This includes a delivery service in cooperation with Swiss Post .

In addition to a restaurant ensemble with an adjoining roof terrace on the attic floor, the gastronomic offer of the Mall of Switzerland includes various restaurants on the ground floor of the mall and the leisure area, each with outdoor seating, as well as numerous bars and cafés. Regular events are planned on the central square, which was named after the previous name of the Ebisquare project. For example, in summer the EbiBeach, a recreated beach landscape. An artificial ice rink is set up on the square in winter.

location

The mall is located on Ebisquare-Strasse next to the Schindler Elevator factory in Ebikon.

With the Buchrain stop, the mall is directly connected to the Lucerne S-Bahn network. The S 1 runs every half hour in the direction of Rotkreuz – Zug – Baar and Lucerne –Sursee. A walkway leads directly from the platform to the first floor of the mall.

The Fildern bus stop is near the Ebisquare and is served by buses on lines 23 and 111 in the direction of Gisikon and Inwil as well as Waldibrücke. Since the timetable change in December 2019, the RBus line 1 has been running to the mall.

By car, the mall can be reached via the Buchrain exit of the A14 motorway and the Lucerne - Ebikon cantonal road, resp. Rotkreuz - Ebikon to reach.

architecture

The mall consists of the buildings mall, leisure and parking garage. In terms of urban planning, the buildings with innovative architecture fit into the large-scale character of the surrounding industrial area , which spans along the railway line in the Rontal . The so-called "Jumping Facades" are unique in Switzerland. This means flexibility and diversity when planning and creating the shop fronts. Among other things, the fronts of the individual shops - instead of being lined up along a common line as usual - can also jump individually forwards or backwards and thus make the mall remind of a naturally grown shopping street.

The Mall of Switzerland logo was derived from the Swiss cross and condensed into a pattern that is also known from fashion brands. It picks up on the Swiss red.

planning

Mall of Switzerland under construction (April 2017)

In 2005, the Ebikon community assembly approved the Ebisquare development plan  , on which the current concept of the Mall of Switzerland is based. After the investor at the time had to exit due to a financing bottleneck, Halter took over the project in 2011 with the idea of dividing it into the different parts of shopping, leisure, living and hotel. Halter brought in the project developer FREO , with whose help the current investor could be found. The foundation stone was laid on June 11, 2014, and the shell was completed after one and a half years, on December 23, 2015. The mall opened on November 8, 2017.

Investors

The project was financed by a subsidiary of Silver Holdings SA . This is a real estate investment company wholly owned by the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) . FREO Switzerland worked as a project developer at the Mall of Switzerland , who also represents the investor. FREO Switzerland AG is a private equity company and fund manager specializing in the acquisition and development of commercial real estate.

Varia

The planned opening on September 28, 2017 was postponed to the beginning of November 2017 due to a construction stop in March 2017.

The mall published a list of all shops and bars on October 2, 2017. At the beginning of October 2017, around 80% of the space was rented.

One of the attractions of the leisure offer, the indoor surf wave , opened on September 13, 2018.

A good six months after the opening, insider circles can hear that the mall's sales and visitor numbers are far below expectations. A representative of a large business told the media that they had not even achieved 25% of the budgeted income. The operators are therefore considering converting the unleted retail space.

After a year, at the end of 2018, the director Jan Wengeler is leaving the Mall of Switzerland. His successor is Peter Triner, who is 20 years his senior. Triner used to work for Triumph and Bernina Switzerland .
