Mammoth Mammoth is an Australian hard rock / stoner rock band from Melbourne . The band is signed to Napalm Records and has released four studio albums and two EPs to date .

history

The band was formed in 2007 by singer Mikey Tucker, guitarist Ben Couzens, bassist Johnny Gash and drummer Frank Trobbiani. Originally the band was supposed to be called Pussy Pussy , but then decided on Mammoth Mammoth.

“We wanted a name that seemed gigantic. A mammoth is already big, but a Mammoth Mammoth is of course much more impressive. "

- Mickey Tucker

In 2008 and 2009, the Golden Triangle record company released the EP Vol. I - Mammoth Mammoth and the self-produced debut album Vol. II - Mammoth . In addition to three line-up changes on bass, numerous concerts in the opening act for Rose Tattoo , Airbourne and The Datsuns followed . The band made a name for themselves through their intense performances. At a concert in Melbourne singer Mikey Tucker jumped during the first song by a window to the front of the pub standing, fuming to bring guests to the stage. Although Tucker was covered in blood , the band continued to play. Mammoth Mammoth have been banned from entering three places in Melbourne .

In 2012 the band signed a contract with the Austrian record label Napalm Records, which released the second studio album Vol. III - Hell's Likely in November of the same year . The album was produced by Blood Duster bassist Jason Fuller. In November 2013 the band played a European tour in support of the Swedish band The Quill , before the third studio album Volume IV - Hammered Again was released on February 27, 2015 . This album was also produced by Jason Fuller. Two European tours followed for Mammoth Mammoth. First with The Midnight Ghost Train and in February 2016 with My Sleeping Karma and Greenleaf . At the same time, the band released the EP Mammoth Bloody Mammoth on February 19, 2016 .

The fourth studio album, Mount the Mountain, followed on April 28, 2017 . The album includes a cover version of Can't Get You Out of My Head by Kylie Minogue as a bonus track . The fifth studio album Kreuzung then followed on November 8, 2019.

style

The band calls their style "Heavy Murder Fuzz". The main influences of Mammoth Mammoth include Motörhead , Turbonegro and Black Sabbath , but also AC / DC . Frank Wilkens from the online magazine Metalnews.de described the music of Mammoth Mammoth as "rough, earthy stoner rock with a punk note and heavy metal ". For Sammy Fröbel from the German magazine Visions, Mammoth Mammoth sound like a musical child of Turbonegro and The Melvins .
