ManfreDu Schu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ManfreDu Schu , actually Manfred Schus (born December 21, 1959 in Vienna ) is an Austrian artist who works with painting , music , object art , installation art , action and performance art .

Life

As a child he was a member of the Vienna Boys' Choir . He studied at the University of Applied Arts (with Schwarz and Oswald Oberhuber ) and at the University of Music and Performing Arts , Vienna, where he studied electroacoustic composition and two years of singing (with Dieter Kaufmann and Professor Weber). This was followed by studying philosophy and musicology / ethnomusicology at the University of Vienna and studying acting in the Actors Studio / Vienna with George Tabori .

ManfredDu Schu is a co-founder of the artist group and gallery REM on Mozartplatz in Vienna (1984–1990). The members of the REM group were mostly extraordinarily grotesque and unconventionally active in the arts and exhibited their works on a REM tour “When the proud enemies sleep” (1986–1988) in some European countries. Schu is also a member of the music group “PAS PARAVANT”. This emerged from an open group of artists and musicians founded in 1980 that has been working under this name since 1983. The artist is also a member of the Vienna Secession .

Schu has two children.

Since around 2006, Schu has been concentrating on performances of his CrashOpera and video works and increasingly on painting, installations and, in 2007, on the piano album "Dangerous White Will You Be Here / Prison Version".

Act

The approach of his art idea is a theatrical and philosophical approach, whereby he is concerned with a more intensive view of a being that is already felt to be intense. He combines unusual questions: body (biology), rituals (music) and z. B. Present phenomena (fashion). He wants to open up an expanded level of understanding and understand and explore life as a theatrical event where things, as in the fashionable world, attach themselves to the human creature as inevitable.

ManfreDu Schu's latest works are short pieces of music called “CrashOperas”. They are emphatically idiosyncratic works that refer to the anonymous origin of man and the person, refer to himself and to Schu's well-known performances, the “PSEUDOGRUPPEN”, and which manifest themselves in museums and galleries, far removed from history. “In contrast to the audience, you construct yourself anew,” says Schu.

In his “CrashOperas” and installations, the stage is a one-on-one conversation, the possibility of expressing oneself out of shyness, long-lasting monologues, as an intensification of magical moods that are embedded in things, as a creator of scientific drama; scientific, passionate opera events, which in artistic research serve to find signs and stabilize sovereign thought.

An important motif of Schu's is a duality of the body, regardless of its gender, between what can be and what will be.

At Schu, pure sexuality is encoded and yet powerfully effective. The mysterious language as well as the voice and mood seem to wander around without a goal, the sexless drive energy is, as it were, undirected in metrosexual space. Aesthetics of movement becomes, in the exaggerated theatrical expression, in an extraordinary aesthetic, for making up the object. Schu: “The unborn in us is the fusion of our talents, the flexibility of our senses - effective as a creative pendulum in us; ... the development of facial expressions and gestures is at the forefront of the artistic work ”. The moment of mystery and questioning is the appearance of clothing, which in its authentic reality takes on authoritarian traits. At the end of 1978 the first sculptures such as “Linen Mountains IV” were created - overpainted and used sheets on which he had slept, as well as first performances and actions such as “Exploding Clothing / Exploding Underwear”, and electronic compositions, where he dared to merge different Styles of music provoked. In the conflict about unrestricted artistic freedom for further work, ManfreDu Schu withdrew more and more around the year 2002 in order to publish the white book “SchlangenGrube / SnakePit” from Jan Hoet's "SONSBEEK 9", increasingly strengthened by new forms and "personally ambitious" . Schu's own existence is understood and experienced as dramatization and theatricalization, as a staged becoming visible ... and creates the accentuation of knowledge. Details and subtlety in art have their special form and detachment in a sovereign, dandy-like and magical expression. Working titles like “KurzTattooierterSchlaf”, “21 Klänge von Blutgruppen”, “21.12”, “BlackMouth” and “Go Go better God, Go Go better devil ... Go Go” refer to these aspects. The contradictions of life, the wasteful, are its life energy, a person's fiction is their philosophy. The postponement as undressing leads the human creature to a state of hidden secrets and out of its own soul veils in spheres of its double life. There are also collaborations with artists such as Honoré ∂O ', Yuri Leideman, Arnout Mik, Hannes Priesch, AF Lindermayer, Gerald Grestenberger, Bettina Bach, Rieglef Schow, Bill Beirne, Tomo Savic-Gecan, Otto Mittmannsgruber, Notburga Coronabless.
