Manfred Weinert

Manfred Weinert (born August 23, 1934 in Gatow ; † February 26, 2012 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a German writer who wrote short stories and novels for adults as well as for children and adolescents.

Life

Manfred Weinert was born in what is now the German-Polish border area . His parents were poor farm workers who moved from East Prussia to Märkische every year to work as reapers for their income. In 1938 the family settled in Müncheberg in the Mark Brandenburg region. Weinert attended elementary school in Müncheberg, then secondary school in Waldsieversdorf . After completing the tenth grade, he did an honorary service with the German People's Police . He then worked as a stoker, clerk in social insurance, temporary wage clerk, trade instructor and dispatcher in the Frankfurt (Oder) area. As an 18-year-old in Berlin, his entry into party politics as a candidate for the SED failed because he named and criticized the personality cult around Josef Stalin as such.

In 1953 he married the gardener's companion Gerda Birkner in Heinersdorf near Müncheberg, where they moved in 1956. In 1954, 1958, 1962 and 1966 their four children were born, first a son, then three daughters. In two courses at the Institute for Teacher Education in Leipzig between 1954 and 1959, when he was gaining practical experience as a home educator in Müncheberg , Manfred Weinert took the required state final examination. In 1959 he took the leader position on boys internat the Extended Secondary School (EOS) in Beeskow ( District Frankfurt (Oder) on), which necessitated another move of the family. In this phase of life Manfred and Gerda Weinert undertook their first literary attempts under the guidance of the Working Group of Young Authors (AJA) Frankfurt (Oder) at the Writers' Association of the GDR (SV). Before they were accepted as members in 1964, they were only guests there. With the transformation of the working group into the district association of the SV, their status was again that of guests.

In 1966, Manfred Weinert appeared in New Germany as a critic of the, in his opinion, nihilistic , poetry by Sarah and Rainer Kirsch . Thanks to the organized contact with the experienced writers, Manfred Weinert achieved a higher quality of the texts that are now in the daily press - especially poems and extracts from novels in the daily newspaper Neuer Tag in Frankfurt (Oder) - in magazines and in various anthologies were published by Tribüne-Verlag , Neues Leben and Hinstorff . Because of his literary success, Weinert became a candidate for the GDR Writers' Association in 1971. From 1972 he also devoted himself to children's and youth literature.

He had since joined the SED and left the party in 1979. As a direct result, he ran into difficulties with the publishers who had previously printed it. For the time being, there were no more books by him. It was not until 1982, when he was accepted into the GDR Writers' Association, that his works were relocated, although none of them were in the adult segment, but three more youthful stories, for example Brinno, son of the outlaw , who played around their leader Arminius during the Germanic era . His Frankfurt writer colleague Hans Joachim Nauschütz praised Weinert's detailed knowledge in his review in Neue Tag , but felt that the actual story was “pushed back” by their abundance.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Manfred Weinert joined the Association of German Writers (VS) in 1990 and again published stories and novels for adults, some of them with an autobiographical background.
