action

Paul Schuberth is in his early 40s, head of HR in a Berlin publishing house and believes he is quite happy with being single. He is divorced from Lisa and has a loose affair with Kathrin. In order to be able to temporarily share his life with someone who makes no demands on him, Paul wants to volunteer to look after dogs at the animal shelter. His first outing with the stormy and aggressive Rottweiler mix Fred not only causes excitement at the duck pond in the city park, but also leads to the acquaintance of the veterinarian Iris Jasper, with whom Paul immediately falls in love. Iris declines Paul's spontaneous invitation to dinner because she is about to marry her boyfriend Timothy.

Both Paul's best friend, computer nerd Günther, and his publishing colleague, sales manager Guido Schamski, have a hard time with their love life. Schürzenjäger Guido was thrown out of the door by his wife after she told her about his relationship with Katja, the secretary of the publishing house director Dr. Görges learned. So Guido moves in with Paul and also brings a piano and a Porsche. The shy Günther has never dared to even speak to his flame Iggy. One day he gives up his own apartment in a love frenzy and wants to move in with Iggy. The beloved does not agree and so Günther ends up in Paul's apartment. The men's flat share is completed by Bronko Steiner, who is hired as a chauffeur by Paul after he lost his driver's license due to drinking and driving. Bronko is a moderately talented painter who used up all his funds for a vernissage and therefore no longer has an apartment of his own.

Paul tries to help his friends, and during the rounds together at Paul's kitchen table, neither red wine nor wisdom is spared. In the conflict between choosing a wife or Katja, Guido meets Paul's ex-wife Lisa and realizes that she is the woman of his life. Günther, although still speechless towards Iggy, is "heard" by her thanks to the support of his friends. Paul has now separated from Kathrin and goes to a one-night stand with Kathrin's friend Biggi, who hopes that this will clear up her feelings about her boyfriend Rodriguez. Paul also takes the mixed breed Rottweiler Fred from the shelter home with him.

Iris, who feels very drawn to Paul and doubts whether Timothy is the right one, now accepts Paul's invitation to dinner. The two spend a long, intimate evening in the restaurant. The subsequent offer from Iris to sleep with her now and only this time, Paul refuses. The next day he finally realizes how much he loves Iris, but it seems it is too late. Iris tells him that she will marry Timothy the next day. On the day of the wedding, Paul races with Guido's Porsche in the direction of the village, where the wedding party has already gathered in a castle garden. The wedding is about to take place there. Shortly before the goal, the gasoline runs out, so that Paul covers the last part cross-country on foot and is completely soaked when crossing a stream. The soaking wet Paul, who also has no invitation, is denied entry to the wedding. Dr. Görges, who, to Paul's surprise, shows up as a wedding guest with Katja, doesn't help him. However, Paul learns from him that Iris is not only a veterinarian but also a publisher's heir.

Guido, Günther and Bronko won't let Paul down. When the three of them arrive with Fred a little later, Paul, with her help, is able to confess his love to Iris over the garden wall, and the wedding ends at the last moment.

In the credits you see Bronko and Iris' best friend Andrea getting closer and Fred is delighted to see a dog lady appear.

Reviews

Christoph Petersen von Filmstarts found that the film was “pleasantly” different from other German comedies such as Frisch gepresst (2012), No Sex Is No Solution (2011) and Resturlaub (2011) and wrote: “We like to pull for a good 100 minutes in this men's flat share - because in Mann does what he can , the adults actually behave like adults and not like adorable teenagers. Only in the constructed finale does the film briefly end up in RomCom waters that have been cleared up again and again, but by then you have long been on the side of the red wine philosophers ”. The Rheinische Post gave the film a maximum of five points.
