The Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi 1972/73 was the tenth season of the second highest Turkish league in professional men's football. It was started on September 21, 1974 with the 1st game day and ended on May 25, 1975 with the 30th and final game day.

In the 1972/73 season, the TFF 1st Lig was divided into two groups, each with 16 teams, as in the previous season. A total of 32 teams played in two groups for promotion to the Süper Lig and against relegation to the then third-class TFF 3rd Lig . The top two of the two groups rose directly to the higher Süper Lig and the teams in the last two places in the table in both groups were relegated to the subordinate third-tier 3rd Lig.

At the beginning of the season, the two relegated teams from the Süper Lig İstanbulspor , Karşıyaka SK and the four newly promoted teams from the third-class TFF 3rd Lig Beykozspor , Lüleburgazspor , Gaziantepspor , Karabükspor were added to the 28 teams left from the previous season . During the ascent for Lüleburgazspor, Gaziantepspor, Karabükspor for the first time in the competition of the 2nd Lig, Beykozspor returned to the 2nd Lig after a year of abstinence.

Kayserispor reached the championship of the group red and thus the first participation in the Süper Lig . In the white group , Adana Demirspor secured the championship and also took part in the Süper for the first time. he Turkish Football Association had the champions of the league determined by a playoff between the two first-placed winners. In this encounter Kayserispor met against Adana Demirspor and won the championship after penalties. However, the Turkish Football Association later declared both clubs to be champions of the TFF 1st Lig.

At the end of the season was from the red group DÇ Karabükspor and Afyonspor and from the white group Feriköy SK and Karşıyaka SK as relegated. Afyonspor, Feriköy and Karşıyaka were relegated to the third-highest Turkish league for the first time in their club history.

In this encounter Kayserispor faced Adana Demirspor and won the championship with a penalty shoot-out. However, the Turkish Football Association later declared both clubs to be champions of the TFF 1st Lig.
