Manuchar Markoishvili ( Georgian მანუჩარ მარკოიშვილი ; born November 17, 1986 in Tbilisi , Georgian SSR ) is a Georgian basketball player . Markoishvili made his debut as a youngster in the top Georgian league and moved to Italy as a 16-year-old . After winning the FIBA EuroCup Challenge with the Central German BC from Weißenfels in 2004 , he moved to the top Slovenian club KK Union Olimpija for three seasons . After two more seasons in Ukraine for BK Kiev , he returned to Italy in 2009 and has since played for the traditional club from Cantù in Lombardy . In 2011 he was qualified with the Georgian national team for the 2011 European Championship finals in Lithuania , where they reached the intermediate round of the twelve best teams.

Career

Markoishvili made his debut as a youth for Basco Batumi in the top Georgian league and, after strong performances at the U16 European Championship in 2001 and the Georgian Championship in 2002, he was signed by the top European club Benetton from Treviso . As a supplementary player, he was also used in the top European division ULEB Euroleague 2002/03 , in which he reached the final with Benetton Treviso, in which he got 15 minutes of playing time as a 16-year-old, but which was lost against FC Barcelona . After the national double from championship and cup in Italy in 2003, he was loaned to the German Bundesliga basketball team Mitteldeutscher Basketball Club (MBC) in January 2004 , with whom he won the FIBA EuroCup Challenge. In the final, the 17-year-old Markoishvili with 29 minutes playing time and 13 points had a large share in the success over the French representative JDA Dijon , in whose squad Markoishvili's compatriots Wachtang Natswlischwili and Viktor Sanikidze were. The MBC lost its first division license due to liquidity problems and was therefore taken out of the rating in the German league, which resulted in forced relegation.

In 2004 Markoishvili moved to the Slovenian champions KK Union Olimpija, where his compatriot Wladimer Boisa was already playing, in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana , with whom he subsequently won twice the national championship and cup double. In the ULEB Euroleague they were eliminated in the preliminary round, in the 2006/07 season they also lost the final series of the championship and the cup final against KK Helios Domžale . For the 2007/08 season Markoishvili moved to the Ukrainian Kiev to win the cup there, with whom he reached the round of 16 in the 2007/08 ULEB Cup . After the runner-up and a renewed entry into the national cup final in 2008 they wanted to reach for titles in the 2008/09 season under the new coach Saša Obradović , but after the premature exit in the national cup against double winner BK Azovmasch Mariupol were up to the former Soviet citizen Markoishvili sacked all foreign players. Then they also lost the quarter-finals in the EuroChallenge competition against the French club Cholet Basket .

In 2009, Markoishvili switched back to the Italian Serie A and played for the two-time national champion European Cup winners of the 80s from Cantù, who competed under the sponsor name NGC that season . In the Italian championship they achieved fourth place in 2009/10, the best placement since the 1992/93 season. In the following season 2010/11 they reached both the cup final and the final series of the championship, both of which were lost to the series champion and double winner Montepaschi Siena . With the Georgian national team, Markoishvili qualified for the 2011 European Championship finals in 2010, where they moved into the intermediate round of the twelve best teams after two preliminaries. There they remained without a win and dropped out. After the Italian runner-up, Bennet Cantù, the club's sponsor name since the 2010/11 season and to which Markoishvili has contracted for two further seasons, qualified for the ULEB Euroleague 2011/12 , in which you only play in the second round because of the poor direct comparison missed the quarter-final play-offs . Markoishvili was named “ Most Valuable Player ” on the last match day of the second round, which was already meaningless for his team.

Cantù succeeded in the ULEB Euroleague 2012/13 as host at the qualifying tournament, the re-qualification for the preliminary round, but this time eliminated after ten games. In January 2013, Markoishvili was bought out of his contract with the northern Italians by the Turkish club Galatasaray Istanbul.
