Marc Andreae
Marc Edouard Andreae (born November 8, 1939 in Zurich ) is a Swiss conductor and composer .
Live and act
Marc Andreae is the son of the pianist Hans Andreae and the pianist Lis Andreae nee Keller and a grandson of the conductor Volkmar Andreae .
Until 1962 he studied piano , flute , conducting and musicology at the Zurich Conservatory , 1962/1963 composition with Nadia Boulanger in Paris and from 1964 to 1968 conducting with Franco Ferrara at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome and the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena . He assisted his grandfather in rehearsals and concerts of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich. In 1960, while still a student, he founded the “Orchester Pro Arte”, an orchestra of music students in Zurich, and directed it until 1962.
He is a founding member and from 1986 to 1992 was the first president of the Swiss Music Edition (SME), a foundation for the promotion of new Swiss music.
He is president of the "Hermann Hesse Montagnola Foundation". Hesse was a friend of Andreae's grandfather.
career
1967/68 he was assistant to Peter Maag , from 1969 to 1991 chief conductor of the Orchestra della Radio-Televisione della Svizzera italiana (today Orchestra della Svizzera italiana ) and from 1990 to 1993 chief conductor and artistic director of the Orchestra Angelicum di Milano . From 1989 to the end of 2017 he was the permanent conductor of the Sinfonia concert series of the Engadin Symphony Orchestra. In 1999/2000 he was conductor in residence with the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra . In 2001 he founded the Giovane orchestra sinfonica dell'Insubria .
As a guest he has conducted in most of the Western and Eastern European countries, in Japan and the USA . a. the Munich Philharmonic , the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg , the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin , hr Frankfurt , NDR Hamburg , WDR Cologne , MDR Leipzig , ORF Vienna , the Bamberg , Prague and Vienna Symphony , the Orchester National de France , the Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France , the Orchester National de Belgique, the NHK and Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestras , the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic , the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich , the Basel Symphony Orchestra and the Orchester de la Suisse Romande in Geneva . In 1996 he led an Italy tour with the Berliner Symphoniker and in 1998 with the Philharmonic State Orchestra Halle .
In the operatic field , he specializes in German classical and romanticism , but also in the bel canto by Gioachino Rossini and Gaetano Donizetti .
Marc Andreae has appeared at the festivals in Salzburg , Vienna , Berlin , Paris , Flanders , Milan , Florence , Lucerne , Zurich, St. Petersburg and others. He has directed many concerts and operas broadcast by television companies and has recorded over 50 DVDs , CDs and LPs .
Over 100 works by composers such as Wilfried Maria Danner , Rudolf Eisenmann , Gunther Erdmann , Sylvano Bussotti , Luca Lombardi , Salvatore Sciarrino , Vinko Globokar , Erich Urbanner , Gerhard Wimberger , Conrad Beck , Daniel Glaus , Peter Hoch , Heinz Holliger , Rudolf Kelterborn , Oscar Moret , Jacques Wildberger and others were written for him and entrusted to him for the premiere.
He initiated first editions (mostly Edition Peters ) and directed first performances of unknown orchestral works and operas, for example by Robert Schumann , Franz Schubert , Carl Maria von Weber , Franz Liszt , Peter Tschaikowski , Gaetano Donizetti and Gioachino Rossini . He conducted Schubert's The Conspirators in Paris in 1977 , the French and Swiss premieres of his Alfonso and Estrella in Paris and 1986 in Lugano, and the European première of George Gershwin's Blue Monday (CD recording) and Leonard Bernstein's in Lugano in 1981 Trouble in Tahiti , 1983 in Lugano Rossini's La scala di seta , 1984 in the Tonhalle Zürich Zoltán Kodálys Harry Janosch and 1988 Edvard Griegs Peer Gynt , 1989 in Lugano Donizetti's Imelda de 'Lambertazzi (CD recording) and at the Belcanto Opera Festival Rossini in Wildbad in Bad Wildbad the Rossini opera Sigismondo (1995) and the scenic cantata Le nozze di Teti, e di Peleo (1996).
Andreae composed piano, chamber music, orchestral and vocal works.
Private
Andreae is married to the violinist Maria Cristina Andreae and has a daughter (* 1995) and a son (* 1993) with her. He lives with his family near Lugano.
