Marcel Müller-Wieland

Marcel Müller-Wieland (born January 3, 1922 in Bucharest as Marcel Müller ; † September 17, 2015 in Emden ) was a Swiss educator and philosopher . It aimed at the renewal of education in the family, school and society. He stood up for an individualizing and community-building pedagogy.

Live and act

Marcel Müller-Wieland was born in Bucharest in 1922. His father was the businessman Alfred Ernst Müller, his mother Margarith Müller-Bär.

1940-1948 he studied philosophy , pedagogy , psychology , sociology and social economics at the University of Zurich , where he in 1948 with a thesis on the role model as Dr. phil. PhD . From 1946 to 1952 he studied with Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi at the Pestalozzianum in Zurich and from 1949 to 1952 he studied neurophysiology and genetics .

From 1954 to 1962 he was the successor of the theologian Arthur Rich and headed the seminar department of the Schaffhausen Cantonal School . Then from 1962 to 1964 he was director of the teachers' college in Kreuzlingen . From 1964 to 1987 he taught pedagogy and philosophy at the Cantonal Teachers' Seminar in Zurich (which has been the PH Zurich since 2002 ).

From 1960 to 1964 Marcel Müller-Wieland presided over the Swiss Pedagogical Association. From 1977 to 1991 he worked as the head of the Free Pedagogical Academy, which he co-founded as a free advanced training institute. This organized lectures, conferences and courses. In this context, he often exchanged ideas with Martin Wagenschein . Even Otto Friedrich Bollnow was among the speakers.

Marcel Müller-Wieland conducted extensive research and provided practical assistance to teachers and educators as well as children and young people. He thus strived for an individualizing deepening of educational powers and opportunities for development. Müller-Wieland's thinking and research has also found expression in a number of books and articles in compilations and specialist journals.

In 1949 he married the German curative teacher Ursula Margarethe Wieland. She accompanied his studies in a stimulating and advisory manner. Marcel Müller-Wieland was the father of a son and a daughter. After his wife's death, he moved from Zurich to Emden in East Frisia in 2009 . He died there in September 2015. Shortly before his death , he gave his written and literary legacy to the Schools of the Future initiative by Gerald Hüther and Daniel Hunziker.
