Marco Gastón Ruben Rodríguez (born October 26, 1986 in Capitán Bermúdez , Santa Fe Province ) is an Argentine football player .

Player career

Argentina

Marco Ruben comes from the youth of the traditional Argentine club Rosario Central . From 2004 to 2006 he played first class in three seasons for the Argentinians. The talented striker then moved to the Argentine top club River Plate . In 2007 Marco Ruben scored seven goals in 28 games for River Plate.

Spain

In January 2008 Marco Ruben moved to Spain and signed a contract with FC Villarreal . He was then awarded to Recreativo Huelva , as he should get used to Spanish football. He scored his first goal in the 7-1 defeat at RCD Mallorca . Due to his attractive performance, the loan contract, which originally only ran for six months, was extended to summer 2009. On February 18, 2010 Ruben came on in the UEFA Europa League game against Hertha BSC and scored the goal in the 86th minute to make it 2-2. On October 21, 2010 Ruben scored in the top match of the Europa League Group D against PAOK Thessaloniki in the 38th minute the only goal to make it 1-0. He also scored goals in the group stage against Dinamo Zagreb and in the quarter-finals against FC Twente Enschede . Villarreal then failed quite clearly in the semifinals at the eventual winner FC Porto . In the 2010/11 season Ruben came in 31 league appearances on a total of nine goals this season. From December 11, 2011 to January 21, 2012, he managed the feat of scoring in four consecutive games.

Ukraine and loan stations

On July 13, 2012 Ruben signed a five-year contract with the Ukrainian club Dynamo Kiev . On August 3, 2012 he made his debut in the away game against Krywbas Krywyj Rih (2-1) in the Premjer-Liha and on November 3, his first goal for his new employer followed in a 2-0 win over Tawrija Simferopol . After eleven league games for Kiev, Ruben was loaned to the French first division club FC Évian Thonon Gaillard for the 2013/14 season. For Évian he played a total of 25 league games (one goal) before returning to Kiev at the end of the season.

On June 18, 2014, his move to the Mexican club UANL Tigres on loan was announced. On July 9, he made his debut in the Supercopa MX first leg in the 4-1 loss to Monarcas Morelia . In December 2014 Ruben's return to Rosario was announced on loan. In 2016, the club took him back under contract. At the beginning of 2019 Ruben was loaned to Athletico Paranaense in Brazil until the end of the year . He won the 2019 Copa do Brasil with the club in September .

National team

On June 5, 2011, he made his debut for the Argentine national football team in the friendly against Poland (1: 2), where Ruben scored the interim 1: 1 equalizer.
