Marc Elsberg (born January 3, 1967 in Vienna , actually Marcus Rafelsberger ) is an Austrian writer .

Life

Marc Elsberg was born in Vienna in 1967 and grew up in Baden (Lower Austria) . There he attended the grammar school Biondekgasse and graduated in 1985 with the Matura , then he began to study industrial design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna . Elsberg worked as a strategy consultant and creative director in the advertising industry , including for agencies in Vienna and Hamburg . He has received awards from the Creativ Club Austria , among others, for his work . At the same time he began to design a column for the daily newspaper Der Standard under the title “No advertisement from Marcus Rafelsberger” .

Marc Elsberg made his literary debut in 2000, at that time still under his real name Marcus Rafelsberger, with the satirical novel Saubermann in the Berlin Espresso publishing house, which is about a run-down detergent . 2004 appeared in Cologne Emons Verlag with the principle third a detective story in which the same Commissioner the death of the chief of an advertising agency must make clear. The book received mostly positive reviews, including the Handelsblatt describing it as a "grippingly narrated thriller". Bild der Wissenschaft judged that the plot was "well researched and described realistically". 2013 was one of the "10 books to read that you need this summer," the iBookstore , also was blackout for several years on the bestseller list of the mirror . In July 2013 it reached second place in the top. The novel has been sold over a million times in German-speaking countries alone and has been translated into several languages. In addition, received Blackout award Knowledge Book of the Year 2012 in the Entertainment category. This is awarded by a jury of renowned science journalists on the initiative of Bild der Wissenschaft .

The sixth book by Marc Elsberg is titled Zero - They know what you're doing and deals with the topics of big data and data protection . On June 9, 2014, the title reached number three on the Spiegel bestseller list in the hardcover fiction category. This book was also named Knowledge Book of the Year - 2014 in the category “Entertainment”. Elsberg was the first author to receive the award twice.

The seventh book, entitled Helix - They Will Replace Us, deals with genetics .

In Greed - How Far Would You Go? Elsberg deals with economic concepts, findings and theories and the consideration of whether comprehensive cooperation between economic partners and branches of industry could lead to greater prosperity. It was based on scientific work on the ergonomic economy of a group led by Ole Peters at the London Mathematical Laboratory , supported by Nobel Prize winners Murray Gell-Mann and Ken Arrow (afterword).
