The Catholic parish church of the Assumption of Mary in Lampferding , a district of the municipality of Tuntenhausen in the Rosenheim district in Bavaria , is a late Gothic building that was probably built from 1520. The church is one of the protected architectural monuments in Bavaria.

history

The first wooden church was probably built in the course of the establishment of the town in the 8th century, which was later replaced by a stone structure. The Lampferdinger Church is mentioned for the first time in writing in 1315 in the Konradinische Matrikel , the 1315/16 list of goods of the diocese of Freising . The current church was probably built around 1520. For a long time the Lampferdinger church was the destination of a pilgrimage to the miraculous image of Our Lady of Lampferding , which several votive images in the church remind of. Also Leonhardi ride in honor of St. Leonhard were held. Around 1670 the church was redesigned in the Baroque style , with new altars being added. In 1803, the painter Karl (Carl) Selb , who came from Tyrol , created a uniform interior decoration in the classicism style with large ceiling frescoes and painted stucco .

In the northern corner of the choir is the bell tower covered with a gable roof, the four floors of which are divided by surrounding tuff cornices. On the south, east and north sides, the bell storey is broken up by pointed arched, coupled sound arcades . The portal is integrated into the sign on the north side of the nave . The two niches used to house bones from the cemetery. A sundial is painted on the south side of the nave , which is dated to the time the church was built. The single nave nave is divided into three bays . The slightly retracted, increased by one step choir is zweijochig and closed on three sides. The choir and nave are covered by barrels with lancet caps that rest on pilasters with pieces of entablature . The western end of the nave forms a double empore , on the upper gallery, there is organ installed.

A late Gothic star vault has been preserved on the ground floor of the tower on the north side of the choir, which used to be the sacristy . The room above was used as an oratory , from which the service could be followed through an opening in the wall.

Ceiling painting

The ceiling frescoes and the painted stucco decoration were executed by Karl (Carl) Selb in 1803. The large ceiling fresco in the choir depicts Mary as protector of the afflicted. The sailing ships in the background refer to the sea battle of Lepanto and the victory of the Holy League over the Ottoman Empire in 1571, which is attributed to Mary's help. The gusset pictures, executed in grisaille technique, depict the Annunciation and the Visitation of Mary .

The nave fresco is dedicated to the church's patronage and shows the Assumption of Mary . In the part facing the choir, Mary is received by the Trinity in a heaven populated by over 60 angels and angelic heads. In the part facing the gallery, the apostles and two women discover Mary's empty coffin. The painter's signature can be seen at the bottom left: “C. Same fec. 1803 ". On the side stitch caps you can see symbols of Mary connected with invocations of Mary. Under the image of the sun you can read the inscription "Lighten us", under the gate of heaven it says "Rejoice", the representation of Noah's Ark is linked to the request "Preserve us" and the Ark of the Covenant with the request "Strengthen us", “Purify us” can be read under the Marian monogram and “Guide us” under the star of the sea.
