Legend

A knight got lost in the Bohemian Forest and vowed to build a chapel in honor of the Mother of God if he ever found out again. His prayer was answered and the thicket opened. Later he rode back into the Bohemian Forest to find out where he should build the chapel. Then his horse lost a horseshoe and could no longer be moved. The knight took this as a sign from God and decided to build the chapel at this point. The horseshoe was nailed over the door of the chapel, which was built soon afterwards. In the 14th century, today's Stadlerner church was built in place of the chapel, which now has the horseshoe on the outside of its southern door.

history

Stadlern was first mentioned as a parish in 1363 . Probably there was already a church in Stadlern at that time , which was destroyed by Ottokar II Přemysl in an attack in 1266. The church that exists today was built around 1400. The Gothic choir with ribbed vault has been preserved from this period . In 1431 after the defeat of the imperial army at Taus , the Hussites devastated Stadlern and his church. From 1526 to 1627 Stadlern was alternately Lutheran and Calvinist and the population had to change faith five times depending on the authorities. During this time the Stadlerner church was closed. However, the pilgrimage did not come to a standstill. The offerings they had brought with them were thrown into the church by the pilgrims through the broken windows. Under Elector Maximilian I , Stadlern became Catholic again in 1627/28 . 1665 is mentioned in the diocese register Stadlern as a branch of Schönsee with the church "Beatae Mariae Virginis". In 1768/69, with the support of the ruler Friedrich Karl Karg von Bebenburg and the Rittmeister's wife Ursula von Thiolar, née Portner von Theuern, a pastoral office was created together with the population - a curate beneficence . This was occupied until 1980. Today (2013) Stadlern belongs to the parish Schönsee and is also looked after by the local pastor. To maintain the services in the pilgrimage church, retired pastors who lived nearby helped since 1980:

  • 1980–2006 Andreas Lesser (* May 18, 1937 in Weiding ; † September 22, 2006 in Weiding)
  • since 2006 Michael Reitinger from Stein

Building

The choir is almost completely preserved in its original construction. It consists of two ribbed vaults on profiled corbels . The choir arch was originally much lower and was raised to today's round arch around 1900. The nave was built in the baroque period . To the left of the southern entrance is a three and a half meter high granite column from the second half of the 17th century. It represents Christ in the wine press.

Interior

Between 1700 and 1760 the church received a valuable baroque interior. The six-column baroque high altar contains the miraculous image flanked by the apostles Peter and Paul . The left side altar shows the Archangel Michael fighting the dragon . The right side altar shows Saint Sebastian . The pew cheeks and the confessionals are with rococo decorated carvings.

Miraculous image

When miraculous image of Stadlern is a late Gothic Madonna from sound , built around 1500. In the moving changing times with military raids, calivinistischem iconoclasm and variously union attempts of Schönseer to rob the statue of Schönsee, remained of the clay statue, only the head get, the rest of the body and the baby Jesus were carved out of wood in the baroque period.

Pilgrimage

It is believed that the pilgrimage to Stadlern began in the 15th century, at least before the Reformation. In a map from 1626 Stadlern is entered as "Städla zur Pilfahrt" and reported from 1629 about the pilgrimage to "Our Lady Burned Image from Earth". Today (2012) many people make pilgrimages to Stadlern. A big festival is August 15th - Assumption of Mary - called "Women's Day" in Stadlern. On this day, pilgrims come from the surrounding area and from further afield on foot or by car to Stadlern. On the Calvary , opposite the church, a solemn service is held in the open air.
