Mario Ariel Bolatti (born February 17, 1985 in La Para ) is an Argentine football player of Italian origin on the position of midfielder .

Career

Career start in Cordoba

Born and raised in La Para in the Argentine province of Córdoba , Bolatti began his active career as a football player with the CA Belgrano in the metropolis of Córdoba . At the club he initially went through the youth and came to his first assignments for the professional team in 2003. After he came to short appearances in several championship games in 2003, and made his debut in a game against the Argentinos Juniors in August 2003 , another two league appearances followed in the Torneo Apertura in 2004.

After a further eleven games in the Torneo Clausura 2005 and 17 league appearances in the Torneo Apertura 2005, it was mainly thanks to Bolatti's role as a key player that after completing the Torneo Apertura 2006 and the subsequent relegation games, CA Belgrano was promoted to the Argentine Primera División , made the top division in the country. Bolatti was used in 16 championship games, in which the CA Belgrano won two promotion play-off games with a total score of 4-2 over Olimpo de Bahía Blanca .

But after the successful ascent to the top class, the team's successes were largely absent. After a moderate Torneo Apertura in 2006 , in which Bolatti also scored his first professional league goal in 17 championship games, an even worse Torneo Clausura followed in 2007 . Although the team ranked 16th at the end of the Clausura, they were - considering the relegation table - only in the penultimate place in the end and had to start the direct relegation to the second division together with the Quilmes AC . CD Godoy Cruz and CA Nueva Chicago followed after the unsuccessful relegation games.

In 2007 Bolatti, who had a strong header, was about to move to Juventus Turin . After the Belgrano's board of directors said they wanted to keep the midfield engine until the summer of 2007, the move to the top Italian division should take place in July 2007. But nothing came of the change until summer and the deal fell through. The Argentine successful club CA Boca Juniors also showed interest in the tactically clever Bolatti and even made an offer of 1.5 million arg $ , which is close to a sum of almost 300,000 .

Change to Portugal

In return, he moved to Portugal in summer 2007 , where he signed a four-year contract with FC Porto in the SuperLiga . For the Portuguese he played alongside his compatriots Ernesto Antonio Farías , Luis González , Mariano González and the goal scorer Lisandro López . He made his team debut on August 26, 2007 in a 1-0 home win over Sporting Lisbon , when he came on for Lisandro López in the 85th minute. In the 2007/08 season , his first season with the new club, 15 championship appearances followed. With FC Porto he won the Portuguese SuperLiga championship with 14 points ahead of Sporting Lisbon, although the team had already started the season with minus six points.

The 1.89 m tall midfielder also played two games in the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League , where he made it to the round of 16 with the team and was eliminated from the current competition on penalties against FC Schalke 04 . Except for one use in the Taça da Liga in 2008/09 , where his team was eliminated in the semi-finals against Sporting Lisbon, the Argentine was not used in any competitive game of FC Porto in the 2008/09 season .

Return to the Homeland

In February 2009, after the recommendation of Luis González, Porto's club board decided to send the midfielder back to his homeland on loan, where he was finally accepted by CA Huracán with play in the Primera División. For the club from the metropolis of Buenos Aires , he completed 19 games in the Torneo Clausura in 2009 and achieved by far his best offensive performance. From the 19 league games of the actually defensive Bolatti resulted in five hits and one assist. Because of these outstanding achievements, Bolatti was voted football player of the year 2009 in his home region of Córdoba and also celebrated the runner-up title in the Clausura 2009 with the team. Bolatti also played for the CA Huracán in the Torneo Apertura 2009 and achieved 17 League appearances in which, however, he remained goalless.

For an estimated 7 million euros to Italy

After FC Barcelona had already expressed their interest in the committed Argentinian at the end of 2009 , problems arose at the same time, as CA Huracán had a 20 percent share of Bolatti's transfer rights and another 40 percent each of FC Porto or a group of investors. In addition, other top clubs such as B. Sevilla FC , Lazio , RCD Espanyol , AC Florence and some English clubs interested in the fast midfielder. On January 18, Fiorentina finally announced the change of the defensive midfield player after the board had reached an agreement with FC Porto, as Bolatti's contract there ran until 2011. He made his team debut on January 24, 2010 in the 3-0 away defeat against US Palermo .

At the end of April 2010, Ángel Cappa , head coach at the Argentine record champions CA River Plate , showed interest in Bolatti and wanted to bring him back to his home country after only a brief stint in Florence . But the Argentine canceled and said he wanted to stay with Fiorentina. To date (May 16, 2010) Bolatti has played in twelve league games, in a 2009/10 Coppa Italia game and in a 2009/10 UEFA Champions League game . The latter game he completed on February 17, 2010 in the 1: 2 away defeat against the eventual finalists FC Bayern Munich in the first leg of the last 16 .

International

After he was previously called up for the national team of his home country , he made his senior national team debut under national coach Diego Maradona on August 12, 2009 in the 3-2 away win over Russia , when he played from the start and in the 65th minute through the more experienced Sebastián Battaglia was replaced. After another friendly against Ghana in early October 2009 (2-0 win), he played for the first time in a competitive match on October 14, 2009 in the qualifying game for the 2010 World Cup against Uruguay . He came on as a substitute for Gonzalo Higuaín in the 79th minute and only five minutes later scored the important 1-0 winning goal for Argentina, which ultimately brought the national team to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa .

Diego Maradona nominated Bolatti on May 19, 2010 in the final 23-man squad of Argentina , which will take part in the World Cup in South Africa. Previously, Bolatti completed a short international match in the 1-0 win over Germany in early March 2010 .
