Marion Deigentesch (born January 8, 1995 in Traunstein ) is a German biathlete .

Career

Marion Deigentesch comes from the community of Surberg in the Traunstein district in Upper Bavaria. As a member of SV Oberteisendorf, she started cross-country skiing in 2004 and switched to biathlon in 2008. Due to her early success in the German Cup, she was considered a great young talent and was accepted into the national squad in 2011. At the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2013 in Obertilliach , Austria , she had her international debut and won the bronze medal in the youth pursuit competition. Also in 2013 she contracted glandular fever , which impaired her athletic development. At the Junior World Championships in 2014 in the US Presque Isle and in 2016 in Cheile Grădiştei, Romania, she did not reach the top 10. At the Junior World Championships 2015 in Belarus Minsk they did not participate. In March 2016 she traveled to the Junior European Championships in Pokljuka and, in fourth place, missed the bronze medal in the individual competition by just a few seconds, despite the second-best running time.

In the winter of 2016/17 , she returned to the IBU Cup after a three-year break and achieved points in every race. On February 4, 2017, she improved in the pursuit with faultless shooting in Osrblie, Slovakia, from 14th to 6th place and thus achieved a top 10 position in the IBU Cup for the first time. In March she won the mixed relay in Otepää together with Karolin Horchler , Matthias Dorfer and David Zobel and thus achieved her first podium finish in the IBU Cup. In the following winter she only competed in international races at the IBU Cup in Uwat and achieved a top 10 placement with a sixth place in the sprint. In the next season she took part in about half of the IBU Cup races, tenth place in the sprint in Ridnaun was her best result of the winter. After winning three medals at German Championships in relay race in previous years, they won at the championships in September 2019 after bronze in the sprint in Bayerisch Eisenstein in the relay race in Ruhpolding as a team of the Bavarian Ski Association together with Anna Weidel and Vanessa Hinz nor gold .

In the 2019/20 season , Marion Deigentesch competed in all races of the second-class IBU Cup from the start. In the sprint and mass start 60 in Ridnaun , she placed seventh and fifth in two races in a row in the top 10. After historically bad races for the World Cup team, Deigentesch, Maren Hammerschmidt and Janina Hettich were chosen for the World Cup races in Annecy / Le Grand-Bornand nominated to replace the athletes Karolin Horchler , Anna Weidel and Franziska Hildebrand who have been transferred to the IBU Cup or are on pause .
