Marjan Petković (born May 22, 1979 in Brackenheim ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper and current coach . He is currently the goalkeeping coach at SV Wehen Wiesbaden .

Career as a player

The goalkeeper Petković, who grew up in the district of Heilbronn , started playing football for the local clubs TSV Güglingen and SG Kirchardt at the age of 20. From there he came from 2000 as a substitute goalkeeper for the Württemberg upper division club VfR Heilbronn . In his second season Petković was a regular goalkeeper and completed all 34 season games for Heilbronn in the 2001/02 season . The VfR he rose as fourth from bottom of the final table from the fourth class league in the fifth class association league.

Petković then moved as a substitute goalkeeper to regional league team TSG Hoffenheim . In the Regionalliga seasons 2002/03 and 2003/04 Petković came to no use for Hoffenheim. Instead, he was temporarily used in the reserve team of the club, with whom he rose from the association league to the league in 2002/03. Up until this point in time, the trained construction mechanic worked full-time at SAP.

In the summer of 2004, Petković moved to the upper division of the Electorate of the Palatinate SV Sandhausen , with whom he again won the Baden State Cup in 2006 and 2007. At the same time, the SV rose in the 2006/07 season , so Petković came to 32 regional league appearances for the SV in the 2007/08 season before he moved to the second division promoted FSV Frankfurt in the summer of 2008 .

In Frankfurt Petković was again a substitute goalkeeper after team boss Tomas Oral had chosen Patric Klandt as the regular goalkeeper. When Klandt received a red ban in the course of the 2008/09 season , Petković came in early March 2009 to his first two missions in the German second-highest division. Subsequently, however, Klandt was given preference in the goal of the FSV, which is why Petković moved to the end of the season for Braunschweiger Eintracht , for whom he, equipped with a two-year contract, played in the 3rd division as a goalkeeper from 2009/10 . With Eintracht he became third division champions in the 2010/11 season and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga . At the beginning of the 2011/12 second division season, Petković injured himself several times (including a tear in the meniscus), which meant he was absent for almost the entire season and lost his regular place in goal to Daniel Davari . During the 2012/13 season he regained his regular place and at the end of the season he was promoted to the Bundesliga with Braunschweig .

During the 2013/14 season he tore a muscle bundle during training and was then only used once. He then tore himself in the meniscus , which meant that he could no longer be used. At the end of the season in which Braunschweig was relegated from bottom of the table, Petković had five Bundesliga games and one DFB Cup game in the statistics.

He announced his departure after the season in March 2015 and played for the Braunschweiger for the last time on matchday 34 in a 2-0 draw against 1. FC Union Berlin.

Career as a coach

Since the 2019/20 season , Petković has been working as a goalkeeping coach at the second division promoted SV Wehen Wiesbaden , after having previously worked in this position for three years at the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim junior performance center . Due to several injured goalkeepers in the SVWW squad , he was put back on the eligibility list in October 2019 and sat on the bench behind Lukas Watkowiak as a substitute goalkeeper on matchdays 12 and 13 .
