Mark Kosgei Kiptoo (born June 21, 1976 in Lumino, Lugari District ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

After graduating from Lumino Primary School and Mukumu Boys School and completing his military service , he signed up for the Air Force in 1998 and began his service at Laikipia Air Base in 2002 after completing his training at the Kenya Armed Forces Technical Training College .

He started running in 2004 after being persuaded to compete in a race for his department. His serious training was interrupted when he was posted to the United Nations Mission in Burundi from January 2006 to March 2006 . In November 2006 he started his first cross-country run . At the beginning of the following year, the twelfth of the national eliminations missed participation in the cross-country world championships .

In the summer he was second in the national championships over 5000 m and then nominated for the African Games in Algiers, where he was only ninth. He had much more success at the Military World Games in Hyderabad, where he won gold over 5000 m and silver over 10,000 m .

In 2008 he qualified second in the national eliminations for the World Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh , where he came in 14th place. As in the previous year, he was third in the 10 Km du Conseil Général 13. In the summer he was fourth in the 10,000 m of the Kenyan eliminations for the Olympic Games in Beijing and had to fight for third place with only 1.13 seconds behind Micah Kipkemboi Give Kogo beaten. At the World Athletics Finals he was sixth over 3000 m and fourth over 5000 m.

The following year he contributed to the fact that the Kenyan team won gold with a seventh place at the World Cross Country Championships in Amman . At the World 10K Bangalore he finished second.

In 2010 he finished second in the Azkoitia - Azpeitia half marathon and won bronze in the 5000 m at both the African Athletics Championships in Nairobi and the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi . The following season he was again second at Azkoitia - Azpeitia and third at Parelloop .

In 2012 he won gold over 5000 m and silver over 10,000 m at the African Championships in Porto Novo . In 2013 he started after victories at Azkoitia - Azpeitia and the Drake Relays half marathon for the first time over the 42.195 km distance and came second in the Frankfurt Marathon .

Mark Kosgei Kiptoo is 1.75 m tall and weighs 64 kg. He holds the rank of corporal in the armed forces and is supervised by the manager Ricky Simms (PACE Sports Management) . His mentor is John Kemboi Kibowen , also a late bloomer athlete who belonged to the Air Force.
