Markus Hallgrimson (born May 31, 1975 in Loerrach , Germany ) is a German basketball player with US citizenship who has proven himself in his career primarily as a long-range shooter with a high hit rate from the three-point line . The shooting guard, who speaks fluent German and English , last played in the Regionalliga-West.

Career

Hallgrimson was born on May 31, 1975 in Loerrach , where his American father Paul worked as an exchange teacher. In the same year the family moved to Langen . His father worked there as coach of the men's team of TV 1862 Langen , with which he made it to the basketball league in 1981 .

Hallgrimson grew up in Langen and learned to play basketball at TV 1862 Langen. In 1992 he left Germany at the age of 17 and went to the United States of America to graduate from high school . At the same time he also played on the school's basketball team there. After graduating from high school, he returned to Germany in 1995 and played one season at USC Heidelberg in the 2nd Bundesliga basketball division .

In 1996 Hallgrimson returned to America for a basketball scholarship at Montana State University in Billings, Montana . In his final year of college, Hallgrimson attracted attention by setting the unsurpassed three-point record of 16 three-pointers in one game in the NCAA Division II during the 1999/2000 season and, with a three-point rate of 40%, 24, Scored 0 points per game. Subsequently, the father of two twin daughters, who also has the nickname "Montana", was elected to the Division II - All American Team. To date, he also holds the NCAA record of 6.2 converted three-point throws per game.

In 2000 Hallgrimson returned to Germany for MTV Gießen in the basketball league , but one year later he switched to the 2nd basketball league in Hamburg , where he won the championship of the 2nd basketball league with the team that year Nord could win. After the bankruptcy of the Tigers, he later moved to the NVV Lions in Mönchengladbach . From there, however, despite 24.9 points per game, he moved to BV Chemnitz 99 after just 7 games . There, too, the now 26-year-old developed into a top performer, scoring 17.5 points per game and also reaching his second division record of 44 points (including 10 threes) in the game against Iserlohn Kangaroos in November 2002.

After another first division season at TSK Würzburg , where Hallgrimson was mostly substituted, he came to the Geneve Devils in Switzerland after a short stay in Spain at Los Bairros , where he went basket-hunting for a year. In November 2005 he returned to his former club TV 1862 Langen and stayed there until the end of the season. After a short time at ASC Theresianum Mainz , Hallgrimson returned to the basketball league for the third time, although he only stayed with Mitteldeutscher BC for one season. Then "Montana" came to England , to the Worcester Wolves , before he celebrated his comeback in Würzburg in 2007 , but this time in the Regionalliga Südost with the Würzburg Baskets , which he won in the 2008/2009 season as a top performer and crowd favorite for promotion to the Pro B helped. After the season he asked the management to terminate his contract, which was endowed until 2010, for personal reasons. After a few games for Ithri Rif Nador in Morocco , Halgrimson moved to Pro-B league club SC RASTA Vechta in December 2009 . For the 2013/2014 season he moved to the RheinStars Cologne . In the 2014/15 season Hallgrimson first played at league rivals Erftbaskets Euskirchen before moving to BSG Grevenbroich (also regional league), where he ran up until the end of the season.

In the old men area he played for the TG Würzburg and came with the team to German championship honors.

family

His brother Daniel (born October 4, 1972 in Seattle ) was also a professional in the BBL and was in the 1995/96 season in the squads of BG Ludwigsburg and SG Braunschweig . An injury ended his basketball career early and he later appeared as a musician under the name Daniel Hall .
