Markus Kurczyk

Markus Kurczyk (* 1964 in Ludwigshafen ) is a Brigadier General of the Air Force of the Armed Forces and the Commander of the Land Command Mecklenburg-Vorpommern .

Military career

Training and first uses

Promotions

Kurczyk joined the Bundeswehr in 1983 at 6th / LwAusbRgt  3 in Roth . He then completed the officers 'course at the Luftwaffe officers' school in Fürstenfeldbruck from 1983 to 1984 . From 1984 to 1988 he studied pedagogy with a focus on social pedagogy at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich . After completing his studies, Kurczyk was employed as a platoon leader in the 5. / WachBtl BMVg in Siegburg from 1988 to 1992 . From 1992 to 1995 he was company commander of the 12th Air Force Training Regiment in Budel ( Netherlands ). Subsequently, from 1995 to 1997, Kurczyk was employed as an escort officer for the Commissioner for Education and Training at the Inspector General in Bonn. From 1997 to 1999 he completed the 42nd General Staff Course in the Air Force at the Command Academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg .

Service as a staff officer

His first assignment as a staff officer led Kurczyk from 1999 to 2001 as department head A 1 in the command of the 4th Air Force Division in Aurich . From 2001 to 2004 he was employed as head of the POCARLw department (principle of structure and personnel air force and information work on the new air force structure) at the air force office in Cologne . From 2004 to 2006 he was Advisor Fü L 1 Principle Personnel and Reservists in the Air Force Command at the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn . From 2006 to 2008 Kurczyk was, as the successor to Lieutenant Colonel Friedhelm Tränapp , commander of the Air Force Object Protection Battalion, and after the 1st Battalion was reclassified in the Air Force Object Protection Regiment in Wittmund and Schortens . During this time he was also the leader of the object protection group in the Mazar-e-Sharif squadron on an international assignment with ISAF . Another ministerial assignment followed from 2008 to 2009 as a keynote speaker PSZ I 5 in Bonn. From 2009 to 2013 Kurczyk served as department head A 1 in the Air Force Command in Cologne. During this time, Kurczyk served as leader of the German forces and also as a liaison officer to the Afghan Ministry of Defense at ISAF in Kabul on a foreign assignment. Subsequently, from 2013 to 2015 he was employed as head of the Armed Forces Management Division I 4 (Organization of Armed Forces) in the Federal Ministry of Defense. In March 2015 he became commander of the Air Force NCO School in Appen . He handed this command over to Colonel Michael Skamel in September 2016.

Service as a general

On October 1, 2016, Kurczyk succeeded Brigadier General Michael Traut as Head of the Armed Forces Training Department (General armed forces training) in the Armed Forces Command in Bonn. On this post he was also promoted to brigadier general. Brigadier General Georg Klein succeeded him in this post in March 2019 . Kurczyk succeeded Brigadier General Gunter Schneider as J7 Branchhead Force Development at the headquarters of the Resolute Support Mission in Kabul ( Afghanistan ) in February 2019 . In February 2020 he handed over the post in Kabul to Brigadier General Frank Schlösser . Kurczyk succeeded Brigadier General Gerd Kropf as the commander of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state command in March 2020.
