Marlon Klein (born December 13, 1957 in Herford ) is a German producer and musician in the ethno- worldbeat sector. He is a co-founder of the Dissidents , a band that, alongside Embryo from Munich, are considered pioneers of world music . Tours, concerts and recordings for numerous music projects have taken him around the globe.

Live and act

After starting out as a student percussionist in the classical orchestra, Marlon Klein founded the Real Ax Band together with Toffi Mache in 1976 and gained first world music experience with this project.

In 1980, Marlon Klein founded the dissidents with Uve Muellrich and Friedo Josch . His Euro-Indian project with the Karnataka College Of Percussion ( Bangalore ) and the saxophonist Charlie Mariano attracted worldwide attention in the early 1980s. In 1983 the band's own label Exil Musik was founded and the musical interest turned to North Africa. The piece Fata Morgana from the dissident album Sahara Elektrik in collaboration with the Moroccan superstars Lem Chaheb advanced to an international hit, which in 2001 again landed at number 1 on the Brazilian charts. As a producer and author, Klein created other worldbeat classics such as Telephone Arab , Mata Hari , Lobster Song and Jungle Book, which were placed in the international charts .

Since the 1980s, Klein can be found as a musician and producer in many other formations: In Jasper van't Hof's Euro-African project Pili Pili , in which Klein has been a drummer and producer since 1984, he produced the album Be In Two Minds, among other things with the singer Angélique Kidjo and the album Love Letter with the South African Phikelela Sakhula Zulu Choir . Small is also on productions u. a. by Gary Wright , George Harrison and Stephan Eicher .

He was also active in the club scene with Dieter Meier ( Yello ), Sven Väth and Oliver Lieb and is represented on various remix compilations such as Buddha Bar or Putumayo under the name Apacho or Path Of Rhythm .

Current projects are Tomas S. Miguel & Txalaparta (the album Dan_Dxa landed in the world music charts in 2006), the Bertram-Klein Duo with the Finnish-Australian singer Esther Bertram and the Euro-Indian trio Peace4Paradise with the Tamil singer Manickam Yogeswaran and the guitarist Jens Fisherman. The dissident album The Tanger Sessions was created in 2008 in collaboration with the North African stars Jil Jilala .

Marlon Klein lives and works in Berlin and Ibiza .
