Martin Krause (mathematician)
Martin Krause (born June 29, 1851 in Wilknit , East Prussia , † March 2, 1920 in Dresden ) was a German mathematician who dealt with analysis.
Life
The son of a landowner studied from 1870 at the University of Königsberg with Friedrich Julius Richelot and Franz Ernst Neumann and received his doctorate in 1873 with Leo Königsberger at the University of Heidelberg ( on the transformation of the modular equations of elliptical functions ) and habilitated in 1875. He left Heidelberg as early as Easter 1876 to do his habilitation again in Breslau. From 1878 he was a full professor at the University of Rostock and in 1888 he succeeded Axel Harnack as professor at the Technical University of Dresden . He founded the Mathematisches Verein there in 1903 and in 1912 was awarded the right to award doctorates to the TH Dresden. From 1894 to 1896 and 1919 to 1920 he was rector there. His son was the legal scholar Herbert Kraus .
Krause dealt with elliptical functions . In 1909 he was President of the German Mathematicians Association . He was a member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences .
Krause died on March 2nd, 1920 in Dresden and was buried in the Johannisfriedhof .
