The Gmina Lelkowo [ lɛlˈkɔvɔ ] is a rural municipality in the powiat Braniewski of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland . Their seat is the village of the same name ( German Lichtenfeld ) with about 1050 inhabitants.

The municipality is located in the northwest of the voivodeship and borders in the north on the Russian Oblast Kaliningrad . The district town of Braniewo (Braunsberg) is 15 kilometers to the west. Neighboring communities are the communities of Górowo Iławeckie in the east, Pieniężno in the south and Braniewo in the west and Kornewo (Корнево, Zinten ) in Russia.

The community has an area of ​​198 km², 67 percent of which is used for agriculture and 24 percent for forestry. There are several smaller lakes in its area, the largest of which is Jezioro Głębockie with an area of ​​90 hectares .

history

The rural community was formed again in 1973 from various gromadas . Your area belonged to the Olsztyn Voivodeship from 1946 to 1975 and then to the Elbląg Voivodeship until 1998 , the powiat was dissolved during this time. On January 1, 1999, the community came to the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and again to the Powiat Braniewski.

The provincial road 510 begins on the outskirts of Głębock (deep lake) and leads via Lelkowo to Pieniężno (flour sack) . There is no border crossing to Russia.

The nearest major international airport is Gdansk . The use of Kaliningrad Airport depends on the applicable border regulations.

A rail connection has not existed since 1945.
