Career

Martin began his career at HC Vítkovice from his hometown, for whom he made his debut in the Extraliga during the 1994/95 season . In the following six years he established himself as the goalkeeper of his team and reached the Czech runner-up with them in 1997 . During the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 he was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the sixth round in 164th place, but did not move to North America until 2001. He first played for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League , but also made his NHL debut for the Senators.

During the following two years Prusek completed 47 missions for his franchise as a substitute for Patrick Lalime before he returned to his home country during the lockout and played for his home club and HC Znojemští Orli . He returned to North America in 2005 and was signed by the Columbus Blue Jackets . Most of the time, however, he played for their farm team, the Syracuse Crunch , in the AHL.

In 2006 Prusek left the Blue Jackets and moved to SKA Saint Petersburg from the Russian Super League . After a year at SKA, he returned to his home club. At the beginning of the 2008/09 season he was loaned to HK Spartak Moscow . Since he signed Jussi Markkanen in November 2009 , Prusek moved to Dinamo Riga within the KHL . For Riga he completed one and a half seasons in the KHL before he returned to his home club in Ostrava in June 2010. In the following season he was initially rarely used, so that his club loaned him to HC Olomouc from the 1st division . After the season he ended his career as a player and became goalkeeping coach at HC Vítkovice for the 2011/12 season .

International

Martin Prusek made his debut for the Czech national team on December 17, 1995 against Russia. Since then he has been nominated for four world championships, but did not appear in 1997 , 1998 and 1999 . Only in 2009 did he get three appearances at the World Cup. As a substitute goalkeeper, he won the gold medal in 1999 and the bronze medals in 1997 and 1998.
