Mathieu Bozzetto (born November 16, 1973 in Chambéry ) is a former French snowboarder .

Career

Bozzetto, who started for the CS Val d'Isère, made his debut in Tignes in November 1996 in the Snowboard World Cup and finished 13th in the giant slalom. His next international appearance was in January 1997 at the 1997 Snowboard World Championships in San Candido . There he was fourth in the giant slalom. After finishing 14th in the giant slalom in Tignes at the beginning of the 1997/98 season, he finished sixth in the giant slalom in Kaprun for the first time in the top ten in the World Cup. In the further course of the season he achieved five top ten placements, including second place in the giant slalom in Grächen and finished fourth in the giant slalom World Cup at the end of the season. When he first participated in the Olympics in Nagano in 1998 , he finished fifth in the giant slalom. In March 1998 he became French champion in parallel slalom. At the beginning of the 1998/99 season he came back on the podium with second place in the parallel giant slalom in Tandådalen and third place in the parallel slalom in Ischgl . In January 1999 he won his first World Cup victory in the parallel slalom in Morzine and the next day he took second place in the parallel giant slalom. At the season highlight, the Snowboard World Championships in 1999 in Berchtesgaden , he won the silver medal in the parallel slalom. He also took 14th place in the giant slalom and 13th place in the parallel giant slalom. In the following World Cups he won four times and also achieved second and third place once. He won the Slalom World Cup and the overall World Cup. In the giant slalom world cup he was third. In the following season he won nine times in 20 World Cup appearances and took second place once. He won the Parallel World Cup, the Parallel Giant Slalom World Cup and, as in the previous year, the overall World Cup. In the giant slalom world cup he came second.

At the beginning of the 2000/01 season, Bozzetto won his 15th World Cup victory in the parallel slalom in Ischgl . Another two victories and four third places followed, winning the parallel slalom World Cup at the end of the season. At the Snowboard World Championships in 2001 in Madonna di Campiglio he finished 86th in the giant slalom, eighth in the parallel slalom and fifth in the parallel giant slalom. In the 2001/02 season he won the World Cup four times. He also took third place three times and second place once. At the season highlight, the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , he was sixth in the parallel giant slalom. At the end of the season he won the Parallel World Cup and, as in the previous year, the Parallel Slalom World Cup. In the parallel giant slalom world cup he reached second place. After ranking 23rd in the parallel giant slalom in Valle Nevado at the beginning of the 2002/03 season, he won the parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom in Sölden . This was followed by second place in Tandådalen and further World Cup victories in Whistler , Stoneham and Bad Gastein . At the Snowboard World Championships in January 2003 on Kreischberg , he won the silver medal in the parallel slalom. He also achieved fourth place in the parallel giant slalom. At the following World Cup in Maribor he was third in the parallel slalom. In March 2003 he won two World Cup victories in Sapporo and took third place twice and second place once, thus winning the Parallel World Cup for the third time. In the following season he achieved three World Cup victories and four second places in 15 World Cup appearances and thus finished second in the parallel World Cup. In the 2004/05 season he only took part in two World Cups. He finished second in the parallel slalom in Sierra Nevada and 14th in the parallel giant slalom in Tandådalen.

In the 2005/06 season Bozzetto came in the World Cup five times in the top ten, including twice in second place. At the highlight of the season, the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , he just missed a medal with fourth place in the parallel giant slalom. In March 2006 he became French champion in the parallel giant slalom and finished 11th in the overall World Cup and seventh in the Parallel World Cup. In the following season he achieved eight top ten finishes, including one third and one second place. At the Snowboard World Championships 2007 in Arosa , he came tenth in the parallel giant slalom and fifth in the parallel slalom. He finished the season in seventh place in the overall World Cup and in fifth place in the Parallel World Cup. In the 2007/08 season he won four times in 12 World Cup competitions and thus achieved second place in both the overall and the parallel World Cup. In April 2008 he won the French Championships in Grand Bornand in the parallel giant slalom. After taking a break in the 2008/09 season, he started at the beginning of the 2009/10 season in Landgraaf and won second place in the parallel slalom. Two top ten results followed in the further course of the season, including second place in the parallel giant slalom at the World Cup in Telluride . At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , he won the bronze medal in the parallel giant slalom. At the end of the season he reached 19th place in the overall World Cup and 11th place in the Parallel World Cup. He had his last appearance in April 2010 at the French championships in L'Alpe d'Huez . There he became French champion in the parallel giant slalom.

Bozzetto took part in 159 world cup races. He has won 35 times and placed in the top ten 111 times.
