Matteucci medal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Matteucci Medal ( Italian: Medaglia Matteucci ) is named after the Italian physicist Carlo Matteucci (1811–1868), who initiated it.

It is awarded annually by the Accademia Nazionale delle Scienze to physicists who have made fundamental contributions to science. On July 10, 1870, King Victor Emmanuel II granted the Academy by decree the right to award the prize donated by Matteucci. The medal is one of the oldest science prizes.
