Matthias Lehmann (born May 28, 1983 in Ulm ) is a former German soccer player who was most recently under contract with 1. FC Cologne . He played primarily as a central defensive midfielder and was characterized by good tackle behavior.
Career
societies
Lehmann began playing football at the age of four with the Bambini of VfL Ulm / Neu-Ulm and was committed by the city rivals SSV Ulm in 1846 at the age of eight , in which he ran through the age groups up to and including the A-youth .
He made his second division debut on March 17, 2001 (26th matchday). His first Bundesliga game was on November 1, 2003.
According to Kicker-Sportmagazin , he was the best defensive midfielder in the 2004/05 season - with Bundesliga relegated TSV 1860 Munich - and, at the age of 22, the youngest team captain in the club's history. He could then no longer build on his earlier performances in the 2005/06 season. On July 19, 2006 Lehmann moved to Bundesliga promoted Alemannia Aachen . There “Matze”, as he was called, developed into a high performer and regular player in the defensive midfield.
Alemannia Aachen did not extend its contract, which expired at the end of the 2008/09 season ; which he for the season 2009/10 for FC St. Pauli moved, in which he received a two-year contract he prematurely extended in December 2010 to-2013.
On February 12, 2011 (22nd matchday), in a 3-1 win at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach , he caused a stir when he and Mönchengladbach's Igor de Camargo touched their heads lightly. Lehmann let himself fall and suggested the referee a headbutt from de Camargo, who was also shown the red card by the referee . In an interview after the game, Lehmann said of the scene in question: “De Camargo touched me, of course. Of course I don't stop there. I would be stupid if I didn't accept such a gift ”.
For the 2011/12 season Lehmann moved to Eintracht Frankfurt and signed a three-year contract there. At first he had a regular place under coach Armin Veh , but lost it after a few game days.
For the 2012/13 season , the second division club 1. FC Köln signed him . In return, Martin Lanig moved to Frankfurt. In Cologne he met Holger Stanislawski , who had already trained him at FC St. Pauli.
For the 2015/16 Bundesliga season, FC coach Peter Stöger made Lehmann team captain. In January 2017, his contract was extended until the end of the 2017/18 season.
Beyond the 2018/2019 season, Lehmann did not renew his contract with 1. FC Köln, for which he played 165 first and second division games, and ended his career.
National team
At the age of fourteen, Lehmann made his first international matches in the U15 national team , for which he scored two goals in nine internationals. He later played a total of 20 games in which he scored a goal for both the U16 and U17 teams. In a further nine games in the U19 national team, 17 appearances in the U20 national team followed.
