Max Seigel

Max O. Seigel (* around 1979) is an American jazz musician ( bass trombone , tuba , arrangement , arrangement, composition ) of modern jazz who mostly participates in big band productions.

Live and act

Seigel, who comes from Owenton (Kentucky), first studied at the College of the University of Cincinnati , with whose CCM Jazz Ensemble the first recordings were made in 1997 ( Lady Bird ). During this time he belonged u. a. also the Blue Wisp Big Band. Since 2000 he has lived and worked in New York City; He also studied with Dave Taylor , Douglas Purviance and John Mosca at the Manhattan School of Music , where he received his master's degree in 2008.

He was introduced by Slide Hampton together with trombonists Bob Brookmeyer , Benny Powell , Bill Watrous and Steve Davis as a member of the Trombone All Stars at the Blue Note jazz club . Since then he has also played as a member of the Roy Hargrove Big Band, the Fat Cat Big Band , the Delphian Jazz Orchestra and the Andy Farber Jazz Orchestra. In addition, Seigel played regularly with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and the Mingus Big Band . He has also performed with Carla Bley , Bob Mintzer , Jon Faddis and Toshiko Akiyoshi at venues such as Carnegie Hall , Birdland and The Iridium .

Seigel also took part in recordings of Slide Hamptons ( Spirit of the Horn , 2002), Nancy Wilson , the Fresh Sound Jazz Orchestra and Frances and Kendrick Oliver's New Life Jazz Orchestra . He starred in the Broadway productions Porgy and Bess and West Side Story, as well as in the soundtrack of the film SWAT . As an interpreter, he has performed works by Justin Mullins , Jade Synstelien , Kyle Saulnier , Sherisse Rogers and Frank Carlberg . He currently plays in Noah Bless ' lineup Slide Appeal . In the field of jazz, according to Tom Lord , he was involved in 35 recording sessions between 1997 and 2015, including with Jon Irabagon ( Outright! ), Christopher Jentsch , Nicholas Urie, Jason Hainsworth , Daniel Jamieson's Danjam Orchestra, Joshua Shneider Jazz Orchestra, John Escreet , Raul Agraz, Eyal Vilner Big Band, Scott Reeves Jazz Orchestra, in Joe Chambers Moving Pictures Orchestra and in the Dick Oatts / Mats Holmquist New York Jazz Orchestra. He is currently a member of the Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia .

Seigel is also active as a composer and arranger. Some of his compositions and arrangements can be heard on his debut album entitled Siphonophore . Seigel also composes or arranges music for the soundtracks to works by video artist Slater Bradley . He also wrote for Slide Hampton, Roy Hargrove, Jeremy Pelt, and Kendrick Oliver . He also teaches trombone at Temple University in Philadelphia.
