The McLaren P1 is a rear-wheel drive mid-engine - hybrid - super sports car of the British sports car manufacturer McLaren Automotive . The near-series design study of the P1 was presented to the public for the first time at the Mondial de l'Automobile 2012. The final version was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2013 , and the vehicles were delivered from October 2013. The P1 is McLaren's first hybrid road vehicle and a direct competitor to the Ferrari LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 . McLaren planned a limited production of 375 vehicles at a price of 1.1 million euros each, which were sold out before series production began. Production of the P1 ended in December 2015.
body
The design of the McLaren P1 with mainly curved lines is based on that of the McLaren MP4-12C , but the P1 is wider and longer and has some completely redesigned style elements such as: B. Headlights in the form of the McLaren logo, which clearly distinguishes it from the MP4-12C.
The rear wing of the car is adjustable, it can be extended by 120 mm for road use and 300 mm for racing.
technology
The supercharged 3.8-liter V8 engine of the McLaren P1 is a heavily modified version of the engine used in the McLaren MP4-12C and develops 542 kW (737 hp) at 7500 rpm. A 132 kW (179 PS) electric motor is also installed. Together, the two engines produce 674 kW (916 hp) and provide a torque of 900 Nm. It can either be driven only with the gasoline engine or only with the electric motor. The electric motor's battery can be fully charged either with the gasoline engine or within two hours at a plug-in charging station. The electric range of the car is eleven kilometers.
The driver can use a system called RaceActive Chassis Control (RCC) to reduce the ground clearance of the chassis by 50 mm in order to create more aerodynamic downforce through the ground effect .
The power is transmitted via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. The brake system with carbon-ceramic brake discs comes from Akebono , which also develops and produces the brake systems for McLaren Formula 1 vehicles. Similar to the Formula 1 racing car McLaren MP4 / 13 from the 1998 season , the P1 is equipped with a system called Brake Steer , which brakes the inner wheel slightly when cornering, thus giving the vehicle more agility when cornering. This enables higher cornering speeds. Among other things, a six-stage electronic stability program ensures stability , in which the traction control and braking interventions are coordinated differently depending on the selected level (normal, sport, track, race, track-off, race-off) .
Performance
McLaren announced the following acceleration values: from 0 to 100 km / h 2.8 seconds, from 0 to 200 km / h 6.8 seconds and from 0 to 300 km / h 16.5 seconds. The top speed is electronically regulated at 350 km / h. The theoretical consumption according to ECE Standard R 101 is 8.3 liters per 100 kilometers, which based thereon CO 2 emissions is 194 g / km.
According to McLaren, the P1 should have driven a lap time of under seven minutes on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife , but an exact time was not given. A Porsche 918 Spyder completed the lap in 6:57 minutes, although it is difficult to make a direct comparison due to different weather conditions.

P1 GTR
At the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance , McLaren showed a concept vehicle of the McLaren P1 GTR for the first time . The model was officially presented at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
The P1 GTR is a racing car that was originally not approved for road use and achieves an output of 735 kW (1,000 hp); an energy recovery system is also installed.
The P1 GTR was assembled from 2015 after the delivery of the last McLaren P1 and is reserved for owners of the McLaren P1. A limited number of 35 pieces were built. With the purchase of a P1 GTR, the opportunity to participate in several personalized training units and briefings came with it. As part of these training sessions on race tracks, buyers were able to familiarize themselves with the vehicle, drive in the simulator and complete fitness training.
The P1 GTR was named after the successful vehicles from the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1995 . At that time, McLaren achieved first and third place with the F1 GTR as well as three other places in the top 20.
The British Lanzante Motorsport, in cooperation with McLaren, succeeded in converting five vehicles into the road- legal McLaren P1 LM after the market launch . Lazante announced a new record for street legal vehicles on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring with a time of 6:43 minutes . However, the prototype was not in road-legal condition while driving.
