history

1964: founding years

First edition of the Kemptener Kreisbote from May 9, 1969: No article yet.

The publishing house was founded in 1964 by Volkmar Mühlfellner in Weilheim. He was editor, manufacturer, exporter, accountant and acquirer at the same time. The first Kreisbote appeared on December 4, 1964. The local edition for Kempten (Allgäu) has been available since May 9, 1969 . In 1980 the Kreisbote appeared in a new design and format and received editorial contributions from the region from there. Information is provided about politics, economy, club life, sport and culture. In April 1980 the new publishing house in Weilheim was ceremoniously moved into. A total of 250,000 newspapers were printed per week in Weilheim, which were distributed by 1,300 carriers.

1986: Takeover by the Münchner Merkur / tz newspaper group

Historical title pages of the Kreisbote

In 1986 the 52-year-old Volkmar Mühlfellner died after a serious illness. Shortly after the diagnosis, Mühlfellner initiated the sale of the publishing house. The Kreisbote was taken over by the newspaper publisher Oberbayern (Mediengruppe Münchner Merkur tz ).

Logo used until 2011

In 1989 the Kreisbote had a total weekly circulation of 450,000 newspapers in twelve editions and ten branches. The circular messenger has been produced in four colors since January 1998. In the same year, the Kreisbote initiated the Südbayern advertising group , which in 2015 had a total circulation of five million copies. In 2010 the Kreisbote produced over 500,000 newspaper copies a week.

2013: New printing center and dismantling of collective agreements

In 2011, the appearance was modernized: a lettering replaced the square logo. After it became known in 2012 that parts of the Kreisbote in Weilheim would be closed in March 2013 in order to relocate them to a new printing center to be built in Penzberg , the Weilheimer Kreisboten-Verlag was terminated internally. Employees in printing and dispatch were given the opportunity to apply for a new application in Penzberg, but no longer under the terms of the collective agreement for the printing industry, but with financial losses. Since the main owner of the Kreisbote, Dirk Ippen , now owns most of the regional media, according to the representative of the ver.di union , the first strike in the history of the Kreisbote went largely unheard. In retrospect, a social plan was decided between the works council and management , which should regulate all matters “as socially acceptable as possible”. The strikers were informed, however, that they will be released “irrevocably immediately and offset against any vacation entitlements, free shift entitlements, working time credits, etc. until the end of the employment relationship”. A house ban was issued by the publishing director Helmut Ernst . A short time later, another strike followed, as the management of the district messenger refused to negotiate with ver.di and, according to the union in Penzberg, still refused to pay collective wages. In 2013, the agreed sub-areas in Weilheim were closed, including printing, shipping and packaging. Since then, the Kreisbote has been printed, packaged and sent together with the issues of Münchner Merkurs and tz in the Mediengruppe's new printing center in Penzberg.

In 2016, employees of the Weilheim typesetting shop went on strike for the first time, as this was also to be relocated to Penzberg. At the request of Zeitungsverlag Oberbayern GmbH & Co.KG announced in May 2016, the typesetting technology of Kreisboten-Verlag Mühlfellner KG should transfer to PMS Print- und Medienservicegesellschaft mbH and leave the collective agreement of the printing industry in order to work under worsened working conditions and without collective bargaining Works council to continue working. The eight strikes that took place between July 18 and September 8, 2016 ultimately proved successful; Those who had not signed the poorer PMS contracts by then could continue to work with the district messenger under the previous conditions.

content

Logos of the newspapers from Kurier-Verlag

The first editorial pages consist of news from the area, business, sports and culture. The content continues with the reader service, which provides information about event dates. In the section “People next door”, short texts and photos from readers about a private, special event are published. A competition, riddles and a weekly horoscope are regularly published on the family website. The Events page provides information about upcoming dates such as concerts, flea markets, stock exchanges and trade fairs with texts.

Another important part of the newspapers is the job market in conjunction with the in-house online job portal www.localjob.de. This is followed by the real estate and motor vehicle market categories, each with classified ads. The swap exchange enables readers to swap items for another item. There are local differences depending on the edition.

Editions and editions

Ten branches were opened over the years. The publisher has been a member of the Südbayern advertising paper group since 1998 and now has 17 local editions.

The advertising paper , which appears in eleven regions, is distributed free of charge to all households in the distribution region without a subscription . It is financed through advertisements and the distribution of inserts. Each region has its own local editorial office .
