The Meridian is a German research ship operated under the flag of Gibraltar . The ship is built as a catamaran . It belongs to to Fugro belonging Bremer company FUGRO OSAE GmbH (formerly OSAE Offshore Survey and Engineering Society of hydrographic surveying mbH).
history
The Meridian was built in 2003 under construction number 1548 at Damen Shipyards in Hardinxveld-Giessendam , the Netherlands . The keel was laid on November 21, 2002, the launch on August 16, 2003. The completion took place on October 17th, the delivery at the end of 2003. The ship was extended at the beginning of 2007 at the Fr. Fassmer shipyard in Berne -Motzen by about seven meters from 35.25 meters previously to 42.35 meters.
Technical data and equipment
It is driven by two six - cylinder four-stroke engines from MAN (type: D 2876 LE), each with an output of 412 kW . The motors act on two Schottel rudder propellers . In addition, the ship has two Thruster - pump jet .
For the power supply on board, two diesel generators with 120 kVA apparent power each and a harbor generator with 30 kVA apparent power were installed.
The ship is equipped with a dynamic positioning system and can be used in coastal waters up to approximately 70 nautical miles from the coast . The main areas of application are Europe and Africa .
There are three laboratories on board the ship for the research work . The ship has several sonar and echo sounder systems . There are two cranes on deck (including a 13 t boom) and a stern boom for loads of up to 6 t. The ship also has three parking spaces for 20-foot containers . In the hull of the ship there are two moonpool .
