history
The place was created in the 15th century at the latest. It was first mentioned in a document in 1445. From 1625 to 1796 the village belonged to the Kornitz rule.
The place was mentioned in 1784 in the book Beytrage describing Silesia as Lekarkow (possibly a spelling mistake instead of Lekartow), belonged to a Count von Bernini and was located in the Principality of Ratibor. At that time he had a Vorwerk named Ottig, ten farmers and nine gardeners . In 1865 Lekartow had a tester, four half-farmers, twelve gardener positions and 24 housekeeping positions. The school was in Janowitz.
In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 211 people eligible to vote locally voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 53 for membership in Poland. After the partition of Upper Silesia, Lekartow remained with the German Empire . In 1936 the place was renamed Mettich in the course of a wave of renaming during the Nazi era . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Ratibor .
In 1945 the formerly German town came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed the Polish Lekartów . In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship. In 1975 the place came to the Katowice Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established powiat Raciborski and the Silesian Voivodeship.
