After Bauer completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller and practiced this profession for a while in Frankfurt am Main , Wiesbaden and Mainz , his contacts from his songwriting days enabled him to switch to the profession of editor and author. Radio plays , features and glosses on SWF, HR , WDR and SR . When the SWF and SDR merged to form SWR (1998), he switched to SWR television. meaning
Bauer's first poetry was published in the late 1960s in Konkret magazine . In the 1970s he worked as a songwriter for two years, released two LPs and was awarded the House of Commons bell. After that he did not appear in public again until 1991 with his dialect poem Do de Dom (Da der Dom).
He caused a stir in 1994 when he returned the Jakob Böshenz Prize for his literary works, which he had received at the 1991 Palatinate Dialect Poetry Competition in Bockenheim, because he had learned of Böshenz's sympathy for those in power in the Third Reich . The award then disappeared from the series of Bockenheim dialect awards.
Bauer had popular success with the character De klääne Pälzer . Illustrated by the illustrator Xaver Mayer, a series was created that found its way into the Sunday newspaper Sonntag Aktuell and into several book editions.
