politics

Michael Gwosdz joined the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party in 1994 and one year later became a member of the district executive in Erlangen. He held this office until 1998. From 2006 to 2010 he was a member of the district board of GAL 1 in Altona , from 2007 as treasurer.

In 2008 he moved up as a constituency candidate for Christian Maaß in constituency 4 Blankenese in the Hamburg citizenship. Winfried Sdun, who was in second place ahead of Michael Gwosdz on the GAL constituency list, had rejected the mandate. He represented the GAL parliamentary group as spokesman for schools, vocational training and further education and was a member of the school committee and a deputy member of the European and environmental committee. From January 26, 2010, he represented Hamburg as a deputy member of the Committee of the Regions . In the 2011 election , he missed re-entry into the state parliament.

In October 2011 he was elected treasurer to the board of the Hamburg regional association of the green party. At the state members' meeting on November 29, 2014 to draw up the state list for the 2015 citizenship election , Gwosdz was elected to 6th place on the list, but missed a renewed entry into the citizenship. He did not accept a possible mandate in the Eimsbüttel district assembly as a replacement for the district representative Anna Gallina , who was elected to the citizenry .

After the start of the red-green coalition in Senate Scholz II , the entire state board resigned under the chairmanship of Katharina Fegebank . At a state members' meeting on May 30, 2015, Gwosdz ran for the office of deputy state chairman and was elected with 93.2% of the votes. In this position, Gwosdz succeeds Manuel Sarrazin , who did not run again. He held this office until June 2017.

For the 2020 citizenship election , Gwosdz ran again in constituency 5 Rotherbaum-Harvestehude-Eimsbüttel-Ost and in state list place 14. He was re-elected as a member of the state list. From April to June 2020 he was chairman of the submission committee there . Since June 15, 2020, he has been part of the parliamentary committee of the green parliamentary group as parliamentary managing director .

Controversy about the perpetrator profile of rapists

On January 9, 2016, Gwosdz caused outrage in social media and in parts of the German press for opposition when he said in connection with the sexually motivated attacks in Cologne on hundreds of women around Cologne Central Station on New Year's Eve 2015/2016: “As Man, I know, every well-mannered and tolerant man is a potential rapist. I as well. We men have to be aware of this - only then are we able to recognize when sexual violence and coercion begins. (...) Those who do not accept this for themselves will have difficulties recognizing limits. "

Gwosdz did not take back the statement, which was wrongly shortened to “all men are potential rapists”, but apologized on the same day with the words, among other things, that he did not want to play down the violence experienced by the women in Cologne and that he is sorry when men felt personally attacked by his words. Since the statements did not fall under a criminal offense, investigations were discontinued after a short time due to some criminal charges.
