Michael Jerome Jenkins (born September 6, 1986 in Kinston , North Carolina ) is an American basketball player . After completing his studies, Jenkins first played as a professional in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) before moving to Europe, where he played in the 2009/10 basketball league for the German first division club WALTER Tigers Tübingen. After stints in Belgium and Italy , Jenkins was under contract in the NBA Summer League 2014 for the Brooklyn Nets and in the preseason with the Oklahoma City Thunder , before moving to Turkey at the beginning of 2015 after appearances in the NBA Development League for the Oklahoma City Blue moved to İstanbul BŞB.

Career

Jenkins went to study at Winthrop University in Rock Hill (South Carolina) on the border with his native North Carolina in 2004 , where he played for the college team Eagles in the Big South Conference of the NCAA . Together with his teammate Torrell Martin , who later also played in the German Bundesliga, the Eagles dominated the less prestigious conference and won the Big South championship tournament from 2004 to 2008. In the national NCAA finals , teams from the Big South are traditionally big underdogs and placed in the lower half of the seeding list, but in 2007 they defeated the Fighting Irish of the University of Notre Dame in the first round . This was the first success of a team from the Big South Conference in the finals tournament ever, in the following round they lost to the Ducks of the University of Oregon . Without Torrell Martin, who had finished his college career and turned professional, you lost again in 2008 significantly in the first round.

After graduating, Jenkins first became a professional in the CBA for the Patroons from Albany (New York) . The previously longest-serving professional league in the USA, which had already been suspended from the game in the 2000/01 season, collapsed at the end of the season and Jenkins moved to Europe at the end of the season to the Montenegrin series champion KK Budućnost from the capital Podgorica , who successfully defended his national double could. For the following season 2009/10 Jenkins moved to Germany in the basketball Bundesliga , in which he was signed by the WALTER Tigers from Tübingen . At the same time, his long-time team-mate from College Torrell Martin had also moved to Germany to join league rivals Eisbären Bremerhaven . While the polar bears returned to the play-offs among the top eight teams, the WALTER Tigers again only managed to stay up. For the 2010/11 season, Jenkins moved to the Belgian Ethias League , where he also played in a European club competition with the runner-up Belgacom Basket from Liège in the EuroChallenge 2010/11 . There, however, the team was eliminated in the preliminary round because of the poorer direct comparison . In the national championship they missed the play-offs and reached only the penultimate place in the league comprising nine teams. For the following season 2011/12 Jenkins was committed by league rivals Optima Dragons from Ghent , who had finished the previous season behind Liège in last place in the table. Together with his compatriots Michael Haynes and Richard Chaney , who had also played for the German first division Tübingen a season before Jenkins, the Dragons under coach Yves Defraigne were able to improve to seventh and third from last place. Then the Gent Dragons left the closed professional league and returned to the league system of the Belgian association.

For the 2012/13 season Jenkins moved to the second Italian league Legadue to Leonessa Centrale del Latto from Brescia . The team finished the main round in fourth and moved into the final series of the play-offs for promotion to the top division, where they defeated the main round second and only promoted Pistoia Basket in the decisive fifth game. In the following season 2013/14 Jenkins still played in the Lega Basket Serie A , since he moved to the first division from Cantù .
