Torrell Martin (born February 13, 1985 in Columbia , South Carolina ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his native US state , he played as a professional in Europe from 2007 . After stints in Poland , Turkey and Greece , he played for the Eisbären from Bremerhaven in the German basketball league from 2009 to 2012 . Then Martin played for various clubs in the French Ligue Nationale de Basket .

Career

During his studies at Winthrop University in Rock Hill , Martin was active for the University Team Eagles in the Big South Conference of the NCAA . The team made it into the national finals three times during his four-year college career , with a first-round surprise against the Fighting Irish at the University of Notre Dame in his senior year 2007 . This was the first success of a team from the Big South Conference in the finals tournament ever, in the following round they lost to the Ducks of the University of Oregon .

After graduating, Martin turned pro in 2007 and played his first season for Śląsk from Wroclaw in the PLK . The following season he entered the TBL for Kepez in the province of Antalya . The team started with nine defeats and after 15 games of the season the contract was broken and Martin moved to the Greek A1 Ethniki in Kavala . For the 2009/10 BBL season , Martin moved to the German first division club Eisbären Bremerhaven. The Eisbären had a disappointing sporting season behind them, which had ended on a relegation zone and in which relegation was only secured by acquiring a first division license that had become vacant. Under the new coach Douglas Spradley , the newly formed team including Martin managed to return to the play-offs for the German championship in the following two seasons.

After he could not intervene in the game in the second half of the 2011/2012 season due to injuries, Martin did not receive a new contract in Bremerhaven. At first he couldn't find a new club until he finally got a contract in France with SLUC Basket from Nancy in October after the former Bundesliga professional Jamal Shuler injured his cruciate ligament there. At the end of February 2013, Martin left the club again and moved to league rivals Loiret Basket from Orléans . After he completed two more games for his previous club at the beginning of the following 2013/14 season, he moved to league rivals Sharks from Antibes in mid-October to replace his long-term injured compatriot Anthony Hilliard . At the end of the year he left the club and was signed for another injured compatriot from Chorale Basket from Roanne at the beginning of 2014 , where he played under coach Luka Pavićević , who had already become German champions as a coach in 2008. After a month, the contract ended and Martin was signed by Élan Béarnais from Pau , who in the 2013/14 season was the fourth French first division team that Martin played for. But here, too, the contract was not renewed at the end of March 2014 and Martin played the end of the season with the second division from Orchies in Pro B. There he also plays in the 2014/15 season, after he was signed again by first division relegated Chorale Roanne.
