style

Michael Mautner writes free tonal music, which contains both atonal sounds and traditional tonalities, whereby he designs the overall course according to dramaturgical principles ("Music is a form of communication, a narrative technique of the inner worlds."). The compositional basis of his autonomous musical works is a combination of twelve-tone technique or series technique and musique spectrale . Through permutations of the respective row, he opens up harmonic fields and shapes them according to spectral criteria (overtones of the sounds). For this he also uses microtonal elements, which he notates according to the ekmelic tone system (72 degrees within an octave).

He is working on a harmony theory of microtonality in order to open up new ways of music beyond the dominance of noise.

For his work in the field of applied music (film, theater, TransArt) Michael Mautner works in a broader style.
