NFL

Austin's professional career began sluggishly. As a college player, he had failed to attract the attention of the NFL scouts .

In 2006 he was given the opportunity to attend a Dallas Cowboys training camp . He knew how to convince and received a professional contract. In his rookie year he was used as a kickoff returner . In 2007 he was also served in the offense of the Cowboys. In the same year, the Cowboys made it into the play-offs after winning 13 of their 16 games. The Cowboys had to admit defeat to the later Super Bowl winner New York Giants in the first round of the play-offs with 21:17. Austin showed a good game in the special teams of the Dallas team . With three kickoff returns, he gained 67 yards of space. Austin showed its great potential for the first time in the 2008 season. He was able to score three touchdowns after passes from quarterback Tony Romo .

After Terrell Owens , who was considered the leading wide receiver of the Cowboys, left the club after the 2008 season, Austin renewed his contract for a year at the beginning of the 2009 season. He should get more time, but was still in the shadow of Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton at the beginning of the season . Aided by an injury to Williams, but also because of his good performance, Austin was now able to assert himself as the wide receiver of the Cowboys with the best statistical values. On October 11, 2009, he was able to achieve a gain of 250 yards in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs with ten passes caught. This is a club record. He exceeded the previous record of Bob Hayes by four yards.

His contract with the Cowboys ended after the 2013 season. As a free agent , he then signed a new contract with the Cleveland Browns in mid-May 2014 , which reacted to their receiver shortage by suspension and injury.

In 2015 he was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles and released after the 13th game day.
