The Mindenerwald (also Mindener Wald ) is a wooded area in the Minden-Lübbecke district. It is located in the area of ​​the city of Petershagen and the municipality of Hille and partly extends into Lower Saxony, which is adjacent to the north. The forest is around 800 hectares and parts of it are under nature protection. The nature reserve is located in Petershagen, is around 515 hectares and is listed under the name MI-063. It is also an FFH area (FFH area number 3618-302, size approx. 519 ha).

The protected area is located northwest of the Friedewalde part of the city of Petershagen . In the south it is bounded by the state road 770 and in the north by the state border with Lower Saxony . The edge of the forest forms the border in the east and the Pohlsche Heide waste disposal facility in the west. The area is crossed by the state roads 764 and 803.

The protection is intended to secure the old oak forests on sandy soils and the pedunculate oak - hornbeam forests as a habitat for animals and plants that have been specially adapted to these location conditions within the extensive forest complex . Ash - alder forests , spring areas, reed beds and sedges are to be particularly protected . The area is an important hunting habitat for bats . In addition, there is a high potential for roosting bats in the old wood stocks. A total of at least nine bat species have been identified. Particularly noteworthy are the Bechstein's bat , the great mouse-eared bat , the water bat , the fringed bat and the great noctule bat . The old deciduous forests offer a very good habitat for the middle woodpecker , black woodpecker and red kite . Near-natural spring areas and swamps offer refuges for numerous plants and animals, e.g. B. a high number of butterflies .

The NSG Mindenerwald is shown in the state development plan of North Rhine-Westphalia and in the area development plan as an area of ​​state-wide importance within the biotope network .

The Mindenerwald swimming lake is located on the western edge of the Minden forest .
