Mirko Hüppi (born March 15, 1989 ) is a Swiss grass skier . He is a member of the Swiss Grasski national team, has competed in the World Cup since 2006 , was world champion in the super combination in 2011 and in the super combination in 2013 , world champion in 2007 and 2008 junior world champion in slalom and has won eight world cup races so far .

Career

Mirko Hüppi competed in his first FIS races at the beginning of July 2004. Two weeks later he took part in the Junior World Championship in Rettenbach , where his best results were 18th in slalom and 19th in combination. He achieved similar results the following year at the Junior World Championships 2005 in Nové Město na Moravě . At the Junior World Championships in 2006 he reached tenth place in slalom and in combination.

Since the 2006 season , Hüppi has also competed in the World Cup . In his first season he was in the top 20 five times and finished 24th in the overall standings. In the 2007 season he was able to improve significantly. He achieved seventh place in each of the two Sattel slaloms, and he also improved to seventh place overall. At the junior world championship in August 2007, the then 18-year-old celebrated his first major success by winning the gold medal in slalom. In the giant slalom, he won bronze at the same time as the Czech Aleš Mlíčka . A month later he took part in a world championship in the general class for the first time and achieved 12th place in the slalom as the best result.

In the 2008 World Cup season , Hüppi was five times in the top ten, his best result was sixth in the Marbachegg slalom . He also achieved his first podium in an FIS race. He finished eighth in the overall ranking. At the Junior World Championship in 2008 he was able to successfully defend his slalom title and also repeat third place in the giant slalom. In the super combination, he also achieved third place. In 2008 he became Swiss champion in giant slalom for the first time and in 2009 he won both the giant slalom and the Swiss slalom championship: In the 2009 World Cup season , Hüppi was six times in the top ten. The best results he achieved two fourth places in the slaloms of Čenkovice and Marbachegg. He finished ninth in the overall standings. At the Junior World Championships 2009 in Horní Lhota u Ostravy , Hüppi won two silver medals in the giant slalom and in the super combined; At the 2009 World Championships in Rettenbach, he was ninth in the giant slalom and 19th in the Super-G.

In the 2010 season , Hüppi only took part in five of the eleven World Cup races. In addition to two failures, he achieved fourth place in the Giant Slalom in Goldingen and two fifth places, as well as two podium places in FIS races. In the overall World Cup he fell back to twelfth place. After Hüppi was twice in the top five in the first four World Cup races of the 2011 season , he stood on the winners' podium for the first time at the three World Cup races in San Sicario in mid-August : He was second in each of the two giant slaloms and celebrated in the Super Combined on August 13th his first World Cup victory. He also kept his good shape at the 2011 World Championships in Goldingen , where he was world champion in the super combined and third in the super G. He finished the giant slalom in eighth place, only in the slalom he was eliminated in the first round. At the end of the 2011 season, Hüppi achieved the second World Cup victory in the super combination of Forni di Sopra , making him the best Swiss fourth in the overall World Cup.

In the 2012 season , Hüppi achieved two podium places in World Cup races with second place in the second sprint slalom in Trieste and third in the giant slalom in Marbachegg, and he also won two FIS races. He finished eighth in the overall World Cup.

In the 2013 season, Hüppi made it onto the World Cup podium a total of 6 times. 4 times of them to 1st place. He concluded his successful season with the world championship title in the super combined. In the overall World Cup he was fourth.

In the 2014 season , Hüppi entered the grass ski season late due to a trip around the world. Nevertheless, he managed another successful season and finished second in the slalom at the World Cup race in Predklasteri. In the overall World Cup he was fourth.

In the 2015 season , Hüppi took 4 podiums in the World Cup. Including a victory in the super combination. In the overall World Cup he achieved his best result so far, third place. The world championship will take place from September 2nd to 5th, 2015.
