The population decline since the 1950s is mainly due to the mechanization of agriculture and the associated loss of jobs.

economy

The economic life of Mironcillo is largely agrarian - in the past, cereals, vines, etc. were planted for self-sufficiency ; Vegetables came from the house gardens. Cattle breeding (previously mainly sheep and goats, today mostly cattle) was also operated. Small traders, craftsmen and service providers of all kinds have settled in the village. In the meantime, rural tourism (turismo rural) also plays an increasingly important role in the economic life of the municipality.

history

Little is known about the earlier history of Mironcillo, but the Celtic (perhaps Vettonic ) high fortress Castro de Ulaca , located in the neighboring village of Solosancho , proves an early settlement of the region. There are no Roman and Visigoth evidence. In the 8th century the Moors overran the area; however, nothing is known of settlements. In the 11th century the area was recaptured ( reconquista ) and repopulated ( repoblación ) by the Christians - probably non-violently . In a document from the year 1250, a large community named Valle Amblés is mentioned, to which Mironcillo , which is not mentioned by name and may not yet exist, also belonged. The place was first mentioned by name in 1414.

Attractions

  • The simple church of San Sebastián dates from the 16th century and is made of larger field stones. The apse is broken polygonally; Above the west facade is a two-part bell gable (espadaña) . Inside the single-nave church, an artesonado wooden ceiling with tie rods and a wooden stand in the west are impressive .
Surroundings
  • The Castillo de Aunqueospese (also Manqueospese ) , which was built around 1500 - possibly on older foundation walls - and restored at the end of the 20th century rises on an approx. 1360 m high hill made of mighty granite blocks just under 3 km southwest of the village . The castle has both straight and (half) round components; the formerly closed battlements have only been partially preserved.
